“Gastronomic paradise”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 3, 2013

This was the 2nd time I visited the Emilia 's taverna in Zourva. About 20 km far from Chania, the taverna lays in a very small traditional village near Therisso. We had cooked lamb and goat with stamnagathi and were amazed by the taste! This is original Cretan traditional food, as cooked by old Cretan women. The wine was also nice, we also had a pie with Maratha and Greek salad. The raki and fruit at the end of the meal were digestive and therefore more than welcome ! Also the view from up there is very nice, if one can watch the view and not the food. It's really worth driving to Zourva for lunch. The way to Therisso is one of the most picturesque in Crete and Therisso is such a historical place. If you visit Chania, don't skip Zourva!

“Lovely stop on a fantastic road!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 29, 2013 via mobile

Driving through the gorges and over the mountains we stopped here thanks to the Tripadvisor comments although it was early for lunch. The place stands on a ridge, on one side there is a ravine before the towering heights of the Lefka Ori, on the other side there is a sharp dip away to the coast and the bay of Chania. Depending on which table you choose you get one or other of the magnificent views. As we were the only ones there we chose to sit in the middle below the mulberry tree and enjoy both vistas at once! The village was very quiet, only three vehicles passed in all the time we were there. As it was early we had Tzatziki followed by the Cheese Pies. Both were delicious although the honey on the cheese pies soon attracted a flight of wasps! Aimilia it was who served us and her English is very good - translates for her dad when he struggles too. She even tried to charge us less for the Tzatziki because she felt that the plate wasn't big enough! The devilishly winding and cliff edge roads probably mean that you wouldn't head there from the coast in the dark, but it's well worth timing your trip through the Therissou Gorge so you can enjoy a full meal before heading off towards Lakki or Omalos.

“Incredible views, friendly service”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 23, 2013

We stumbled across this taverna when exploring in Crete. The girl working there spoke good English & went out of her way to make sure we had what we wanted, and answered all our crazy questions about the area. We just had drinks & some delicious local cheeses, but thoroughly enjoyed it in the relaxing, spectacular location in the mountains. Wish we had been hungry enough to eat a meal there!
