“Lovely hotel with excellent facilities”
Reviewed June 25, 2010

My husband and I stayed at the Albrighton Hotel and had a lovely time. The hotel is set is lovely grounds witha small lake in front of it and chairs and tables so you can sit outside. The room we had was excellent and huge - a lot bigger than we were expecting. The furniture was lovely, clean and modern with dressing gowns and slippers. The rroms also have decent hairdryers as well as a good selection on the tea tray.

We stayed for two nights and ate in the town in the eveinings so we cant comment on the evening meals. Shrewsbury town is 4 miles away costing £4.70 by taxi and they have some lovely restaurants. The breakfast at the hotel was very nice with a large selection of hot and cold foods.

Staff were brilliant and very helpful. The hotel also has a small spa and gym which we used and enjoyed. The gym has all that you need as well as TVs attached to the machines. The spa is a small pool, jacuzzi, steam room, sauna and ice room.

The only down side was that our room was baking hot. There was a fan available so obviously others found this too.

We will be going back next year and recommend this hotel to couples.

Stayed at the Mercure Shrewsbury on a Saturday evening as part of a short break with my partner. Booked in a junior suite on a DBB basis. Room was very spacious and comfortable although needed a little bit of tlc - carpet was in a bad condition near the bathroom (looked as if they had had a leak at some point) and the very large bathroom was a bit tired. But, lovely views over the small lake and gardens. Leisure facilities very good - enjoyed our swim in the pool. Evening meal in the restaurant was very good - although service a little slow for dessert. Staff very friendly and helpful. Good choice at breakfast. A good weekend get away.

Reception team are very friendly and efficient, always happy to help and make visit fit my needs. Restaurant delivers an interesting menu of well prePared and presented meals, service can be a little slow when busy but not so that its a problem.

lots of variety to room types but all are comfortable, clean and well designed. All the usual facilities provided and always clean.

Attached gym and sauna are a real plus for the hotel, very good pool and sauna/steam rooms The extensive grounds provide a relaxing walk and pleasant vistas.

This is a hotel I choose to stay at when I am in the area

The location is great: only a short distance from historic Shrewsbury but set in such a quiet spot in the countryside you cannot believe it. The only noise I heard there was the birds' chorus.
The rooms (we occupied two rooms) were spacious, clean and pleasantly decorated; the bedding comfortable and soft. The restraunt was great: both the food and the service. The staff were friendly and helpful.
The car park is convenient, with enough room for comfortable parking.

This is an excellent hotel for a peaceful break. The Dining Room is traditional with high quality service from the attentive staff. The bedroom was clean and very spacious with views over the gardens and lake. Leisure facitities are an additional attraction.

We stayed the May Bank holiday weekend with 17 year old, 13 year old and 10 year old. Hotel gave us inter connecting rooms with extra bed for 10 year old. Rooms overlooked the lake. Staff very helpful and polite. We ate in the restaurant and they were nice with the children and the food was good. Lovely Swimming pool and changing rooms very clean and well cared for.

We stayed one night because we were attending a nearby wedding. We checked in early, and because we wouldn't be back till much later, were told our bags would be taken to the room for us and the room would be made ready. However, when we turned up later, our bags were still in reception and no room had been prepared. After lugging our bags to our room in the old part of the hotel - quite a journey - we found the lock was broken and we couldn't get into our room. After a return journey to reception, we were given another room in the same part. After getting ready for bed we found the toilet was broken and wouldn't flush! A call to reception assured us some one would be up to fix it but no one turned up. The room itself was tiny and very hot - air-conditioning was a nasty little plastic fan in the corner. Even though it was only a first floor room, the window was rigged to only open a crack. We baked all night. Decor was un-inspiring (all white) and the TV looked like it had been purchased in the 80s. The room also over looked the back of the kitchens. We booked this room well in advance so why were we not given preference on one of the rooms over looking the grounds? It's not like this was a last minute booking. We were woken at 6 by the sound of the kitchen staff emptying bottles into a skip - did this really need to be done then and not later? As we were leaving the room we found an old pair of socks in a draw from a previous guest - proof of how well the room had been checked! We gave our complaints to the receptionist but she just doodled on her pad so I don't expect them to be followed up. A very poor stay and we won't be back or recommend this to any friends.
