Mercure Shrewsbury Albrighton Hall Hotel and Spa

The Mercure Albrighton Hall has the charm of an old style country house with the most of the modern amenities at a very reasonable price. The Hall is out in the country about 5 miles from Shrewsbury. The hotel is large with rambling corridors! I was in the stable block and I got lost a couple of times going to the bar. Beautiful grounds and plenty of parking space. The interior of the hotel could do with a refurbishment, and the carpet on the stairs could do with replacing. The staff were friendly and efficient especially in reception. The room on the second floor was large and the bathroom very modern with good free toiletries. No bottle water was available in the room although this was requested, however I was given a free bottle of wine. The whole hotel was very clean with lots of common rooms with the country house styling. I chose to eat in the bar area which was spacious and the food was well cooked but not cheap.

We have just returned from another two night break at the Albrighton. This is the third time that we have been and loved it on each occasion. We use Tesco vouchers and find the stay reasonably priced.
We stayed in a family superior despite only being two of us, The room, was large and up to a very good standard with toiletries, hairdryer, fridge and tea facilities. The staff are always exceptional...I have read some of the other reviews complaining about staff in the bar, but we have never had any problems. They are always very polite and attentive.
Breakfast is well worth the money too. We like it as we lobe Shreswsbury town as well as the free access to the gym and spa facilities...im sure a fourth visit is on the cards next year.

Room Tip: We would not choose to stay in the Headmasters House as walls thin and floors creacky

We had a 2 night stay from Friday 21st September. Very efficient reception desk (and we later found all other staff were friendly). Given a room in the stable block which is actually about a 60 yard walk round to the back of the hotel (which could be a bit of a negative in poor weather). Room was enormous and well furnished with a huge bathroom, power shower and bath. Very quiet at night.

We decided to eat at the hotel on both nights, and despite earlier comments about slow service we found the staff to be prompt and attentive. Food was of good quality and well presented. My steak was cooked exactly as requested and proved very flavoursome. Breakfast was the now typical buffet format but the selection was good, frequently replenished and reasonable quality.

The pool was a little disappointing in size but it was warm and the pool area and changing rooms were clean. We used the adjacent steam room which for us was just the right temperature. Grounds are very well kept and quite an interesting layout.

We would stay here again and would recommend to others.

First impression is of a nice old house and grounds. Second impression is where is the front door, and when you find it make sure you are not disabled - not sure how this place meets accessibility standards. Very small reception with inexperienced staff who don't know why two of their promotional signs contradict the various discount levels offered to the spa. Lets get to the room - oh there is no lift, but keep going up and down stairs and corridors and then the room overlooks a roof over the service yard. Lets have a cup of tea and get our breath back - oh the carpet is wet and the radiator is leaking (judging by the rust its been like that for many months). One hour and 3 phone calls later we are in the room next door, which is even smaller, although they said it wasn't. Being the weekend they of course let the room next door with the leaking radiator to someone else. Split timber in the bathroom, paint peeling off and bare timber to the windows the list of neglect goes on. Sleep ... get waken up after midnight by the howl of waste bins being dragged across the service yard! And so it goes on. The one good part of the hotel was the dinner and service which was excellent, although the wine list shown was very small but I understand they may have had another one somewhere else.

Our second stay at this hotel set in lovely grounds outside Shrewsbury.
Value : Price for B&B in main hotel (house) building had risen considerably since the summer which is reflected in my rating.
Sleep Quality: Beds were good, but we were disturbed by very noisy guests outside, returning to the hotel late at night.
Service: Was very good, staff delightful
Location: Taxis to/from Shrewsbury Town centre can have quite a large variation in meter cost. Top charge £8
Food: Only had breakfast which was fine, bacon particularly tasty

My wife and i have just spent a night at this hotel after buying a meal and room package. It is set in beautiful mature gardens which include a pond and fountain out at the front. We selected the hotel in view of it's location as we had a wedding to attend locally. Unfortunately we did not have time to enjoy the spa and we were only here for one night but we did eat in the hotel restaurant and the food and service was superb. They have a waiter from Venice who was a bit of a character with a great sense of humor. Breakfast was fantastic with lots of locally acquired produce; the sausages in particular were very tasty.

The room was a good size but in order to access it we had to walk down the path to an outside block; this would not be fun if it was raining. The room was immaculate and very spacious with a very comfortable bed although the room was a little too warm for my liking.

The bar staff were very helpful with drink ideas and the service all round was very good including the receptionist who also was very cheerful and helpful.

We would definitely stay here again but if you want to use the spa then I suggest that you book up well in advance to ensure they are not fully booked. All in all it is a lovely mature hotel set in a lovely location.

Room Tip: Ask in advance what the room options are and if you will need to go outside in order to access it.
