Service in the restaurant was extremely slow at dinner. The head waiter seemed to rush about like a headless chicken. The lamb shank tasted as if it had been cooked earlier and warmed up. The roasted root veg also appeared to have been cooked a second time and was very crisp. We didn't return the second evening. By contrast the breakfast experience was a delight! A very efficient lady in charge. The food was much better too. I do think the hotel should warn prospective guests if a wedding is taking place. We felt we were intruding when we went in the bar on the Saturday afternoon. Especially when we ordered Pimms but couldn't have fruit because that was for the wedding guests! Our room was above the bar and even when the live music stopped around 12.15am people stood outside the bar and talked, loudly, until after 1.30am. We couldn't understand why wedding guests had not been given our room. At least they wouldn't have been kept awake!

Room Tip: If there's a wedding on ask for a back room.

This hotel looks lovely upon arrival. Until you delve a little deeper. We stayed here for 1 might at the beg of July and I couldn't believe how terrible the food was. It was dripping in fat and the kids food was also of poor quality and cooking. It was the 1st time my kids haven't eat their icecream!! I normally wouldn't mind the heffty price tag but then the food is rubbish I felt very let down and robbed!!! The grounds are lovely, until you take a few steps at the front of the building down to the lake when literally the whole grass are is full of dog poo! disgusting for a 4 *. I felt sorry for the poor photographer who had just arrived and was trying to find nice shots for the afternoon wedding!!! And more sorry for the bride!!! SORT OUT THE CHEF AND POOR SERVICE.

Booked this hotel after staying many times with another hotel chain and can only say we we all thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
Had booked three seperate rooms and were allocated in the fairly new extension of the hotel which overlooks the lake. All the rooms were well furnished and we dined in the hotel restaurant on one occasion and all enjoyed a fabulous meal in the oak panelled dining room.
We used the gym, pool and spa facilities but couldn't get in for treatments as they were so booked up, hopefully next time.
Overall a fabulous stay in a very convenient location for Shrewsbury, 5mins drive away !, which in itself is a lovely place. Only minor problem with the water heating on our last night which was very efficiently qnd prompty dealt with by the excellent reception staff.
We are hoping to return again for some more relaxation and shopping soon.

We had a very pleasant stay here. Friendly helpful staff, relaxing atmosphere and room nice and clean. The evening meal was fantastic. Beautiful oak dining room, waiters and waitresses attentive and respectful, and food of a very high standard. Would definitely return, and look forward to doing so.

The hotel and grounds were lovely. The room was nice, had the best nights sleep, the bed was so comfortable. Would recommend that guests booked their own taxi's as the one the hotel called smelt strongly of urine but overall a very good stay.

Went to this hotel for a friends' wedding. Hotel, surroundings and gardens are beautiful (no doubt helped by gorgeous weather!) Canapes and drinks before wedding breakfast were lovely and the wedding food was great too. The room we had was in the stables at the back of the hotel, which was accessed across a courtyard, not as convenient as being in the main building, but was very quiet, which suited us. Breakfast was not taken in the restaurant, as the wedding guests ate together in the room we had used for the wedding and so was a little more informal. Did not use the leisure facilities, even though they looked nice, as we didn't have time.

My husband and I have just returned from a dinner, bed and breakfast break which also included a spa treatment each. It was wonderful !
The lady on reception was extremely friendly and she was absolutely perfect as a first impression....
We were immediately made to feel welcome and relaxed.
The room was lovely and spacious, at the top of the old part of the hall with oak beams and lots of character.
Food was absolutely superb ! We couldn't believe the three course meal was all included within the price! Our compliments to the chef(s) and all the staff.

Ok, so the boiler was broken in the pool and so it was cold - but we were contacted in advance and the staff ensured that it wasn't a suprise ! The spa treatment was great, facilities a little dated but absolutely fine.

Shame the weather turned bad as we were looking forward to walking around the grounds and soaking up the peaceful enviroment.
All in all, a lovely short break - would recommed it to couples looking for a getaway ...
