“A complete disaster!!!”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 4, 2011

We stayed at the hotel about 7 years ago and weren't impressed - went back for lunch today and had to realise that nothing had changed. Food was average but the service was just terrible. Untrained staff (seemed like school kids) were taking orders and serving drinks and food without any training or any knowledge. Although we had paid we left before the coffee was served. 2 minutes down the road is Albright Hussey which is fabulous!

Never again!

My friend and I had a 'girly' spa break for two days and have just returned. The room was lovely, the food very nice, the ambiance was a mix of traditional and new and the spa was well equipped, restful (apart from the waiting area, which was next to the squash court) and very relaxing. We didn't use the gym but we used the pool (which could do with a little bit of updating), the jacuzzi (which could do with being a little bit bigger and is in need of some upgrading) and the various steam/sauna/ice rooms.

The grounds are lovely and the whole place is very nice and has a good feel about it. It is only about 2 miles from Shrewsbury centre but there is absolutely nothing in the 'village' of Albrighton. We did not intend to go back to Shrewsbury as we had just had two nights there but if you just want to lie around a lot and relax (!!) this is the perfect place.

A group of us stayed here while on a short motoring jaunt. Everything about the hotel was excellent apart from the hassle we had getting served dinner.

The location is beautiful, it sits in its own extensive grounds and we were exceptionally lucky with the room. It was in the main building and in the eaves, a large, bright and clean room well away from the bustle of the hotel. Some of our fellow travellers were less lucky with their rooms and got something much smaller right next to the kitchen extractor fans.

The problem we had was with dinner. If they had told us when we checked in that they did not have tables available until 9.30 then we would have made other arrangements, but they didn't. If they had seated and served us promptly then it wouldn't have been so bad, but they didn't. So they ended up with 6 unhappy diners.

On the other hand Atif, the night receptionist turned the entire experience around. His humour and attentiveness smoothed over the earlier cracks and eventually we ended up enjoying dinner. Without Atif it would have been a very different experience.

So:

- Check carefully or don't dine in
- Ask for room 28 (or similar)
- Take time out to meet Atif

and you'll have a great stay.

Room Tip: Room 28 is a stunner

Lovely Hotel, Shame about some of the Staff
We had booked 3 rooms 2 months ago so there should not have been a problem
As we were not told at checking in at reception that the restaurant was full, we went and had some drinks in the bar and then asked for menus, at which point we were told that we could not eat in the restaurant as it was full.
We eventually were told that we could eat 2 hours later at 9pm, not having any other choices we said ‘Yes, that’s fine’. At 9:20 pm we made our way to the restaurant as no member of staff invited us to the restaurant. When we found somebody, we were told that our table was ready. Have we not went searching for a member of staff, I think we would not have any food that evening. Knowing that they were running behind, we even had to wait for bread, as the waitress went back to the kitchen after serving bread to four out of SIX guests at the table and disappeared . Despite having a few waiters and waitresses in the restaurant we had to phone the reception to get the rest of the bread and our starter. Our food arrived at 10:00pm. This Man from the night reception was the ONLY person in the Hotel who was helpful and tried to sort the problem. THANK YOU VERY MUCH ATTIF ( sorry, if I spelt your name incorrectly). YOU WERE SUPERB!!! The hotel should make you a Manager! I suggest the rest of the staff is retrained on the basics of how to treat customers.
We normally stay at the groups’ hotels in France but not any longer .
