“B&B and Battlefield Tour”
Reviewed October 3, 2013

I have just visited Tim and Gills farm at Miraumont and had a 2 day battlefield tour. The accommodation is very good, extremely comfortable and clean. We had an evening meal each evening we stayed at the Farm and the food was lovely. as was the wine, beer and cider that flowed very generously. The breakfasts are continental and filling for the days tour. Tim conducts the tours and he tailors them for the visitor. He is extremely knowledgeable and quite clearly loves his chosen subject. This makes the tours of each battle site much more informed and interesting. the pace is as slow or fast as you like and we had 2 incredible days. I really cant recommend this farm or tour highly enough and will hopefully return in a couple of years for a tour of the Ypres area.

This review if for Tim Wright's battlefield tour - we had made other arrangements previously for accommodation and I can't comment on the farm.

If you have an interest in the battlefields of WW1, English and Australian military history or you are simply looking for an experience in Northern France, then this is the tour for you. Having studied battlefields around the world and travelled to Gallipoli, the Palestinian peninsula, Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia and PNG to visit the areas, I was looking for a more comprehensive tour, tailored for specific events and areas - this tour exceeded all my expectations. Tim's detailed knowledge of the specifics of the campaign, his genuine passion for research and his easy narrative style combined to make this an exceptional experience.

Tim takes you to the very heart of the battlefields, walking the ground and the old trench lines to give you an intimate understanding of the atrocious conditions, the mistakes and the key events. You are able to stand in old trench lines and on little known observation points and get a real understanding of the landscape and how it shaped the campaign.

I doubt there is a better experience than this anywhere in Northern France. If you are looking for a bespoke tour and seek to understand the battlefields with a guide with a comprehensive knowledge, then this is it. Stay off the busses, forget the tour brochures and book a tour with Tim - it will be an unforgettable experience.

Tim's narrative is easy to understand, tailored for the audience and makes for a warm and welcome experience. Don't miss it.

My boyfriend and I stayed at Freeman Farm with my parents this September and did a 3 day tour of the battlefields with Tim. The tour was absolutely fascinating, we all learnt so much and it was tailored to our specific interests. My boyfriend is Australian and was particularly interested in their offensives during the war. The B&B was very comfortable and we were extremely well looked after by Gill. The food was delicious and Gill went out of her way to cater for us - I am gluten-free and had tasty food options at every meal. We highly recommend Freeman Farm and Lost Generation for your trip to this area of France and will be telling all our friends and family to go with Tim and Gill.

We stayed at Freeman Farm in September this year. Tim is an excellent guide, very knowledgeable and was able to answer all the questions we had. It was a very positive experience and we learned a great deal. He and his wife Gill made us feel very welcome and Gill is an excellent cook. The food was superb and plentiful. The rooms were very clean and comfortable with excellent showers. All in all, they couldn't do enough for us throughout our stay. We would highly recommend this B & B and Tim as a guide whether you are first time visitors or have some previous experience.

Room Tip: All the rooms are similar and to the same high standard.

My son and I stayed at Freemans farm in July this year and loved the location for visiting the Somme battlefields and memorials. We cycled each day and would arrive back tired but having had an amazing time and learning so much. Our hosts Gill and Tim were absolutely the most welcoming and thoughtful of hosts always preparedj to make time to advise or help you if they could. We look forward to returning at some stage in the future.

We travelled to this area of France to tour the battlefields and memorials of WWI. We arranged for Tim to provide us with a 1 day personalised tour. Tim was an excellent guide, full of knowledge and able to tailor the experience to appeal to all three of our party (which included a 13 year old boy). He had undertaken some preliminary research of our relative who had fought in the Somme, and this was folded into our tour. We also stayed at their B and B. Tim and Gill were delightful hosts. Nothing was too much trouble for Gill, eg we arrived late and she quickly put together some toasted sandwiches and salad for us. The B and B has a collection of interesting WWI items - helmets, munitions, medals, etc. We would stay again, and highly recommend both the tour and the B and B.

Room Tip: Two rooms had an ensuite. The third room had a bathroom for your exclusive use, but outside of your...

Had a fantastic stay. Tim and Jill were great hosts and location was excellent for touring The Somme area. Have alreadybooked to go back again August 2013 to explore the area more. Food was great and Tim's knowledge and advice on WW1 was excellent. Looking forward to going back there. Would highly recommend this B n B to anyone visiting the Somme area.
