We spent 4 nights at this campsite this Easter and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The site is quiet, away from traffic and seemed to have people staying who wanted peace and quiet rather than music and noise as can be found in many sites. It has a pool, which wasn't open at the time, and plots as well as a wooded area for free camping. It has plenty of shade and is very clean.
It's a few hundred metres from the very small and quiet village of Los Mesones along a pine forest road with Scops Owls calling at night. The site has good showers and toilets with paper and handtowels and hot water, although not very hot. The bar and restaurant are a bit low key offering pizza and bratwursts and roast chickens to order, but not much else. Breakfast of toast coffee and orange juice costs 3 euros. Around the site are plenty of walks in the woods and it's not far from Riópar, 7km and easily cycleable. Riópar has some restaurants and shops for supplies and another 8km is the source of the Rio Mundo, an impressive waterfall coming from within the limestone mountain.
The village, Los Mesones is so small it has a Pensión (rural hotel) with a bar and restaurant and another at the entrance. The former was closed this Easter and the other had a raging fire to warm your bones. We ate here one night and visited the fire every day. The owners are extremely friendly and inviting and the food is excellent homecooked fare. We had 2 glasses of wine, followed by 2 starters, 2 delcicious main courses, a bottle of wine, a desert and liquers each and the meal came to 18 euros between us. Unbelievable!
A highly recommended place to go camping, relax and recharge.
