“Cosy cottage, fantastic location”
Reviewed April 7, 2015 for a stay in March 2015

The Rustic Barn, in Over Haddon, is set in a great location in the heart of the Peak District. There are lovely walks directly from the cottage, that we did on a couple of days despite the rain! It is also very close to Bakewell, which is also easy enough to walk to.

We are a family of 5, with 2 adults and 3 children (8, 12, 14). The cottage has two double rooms and a single room, so we split the kids between one of the double rooms and the single room, which worked out well. The main double room is spacious and has plenty of hanging/cupboard space for clothes. The second double room is a little tight on space. The single room has a nice large single bed, although it would be nice if the desk was a chest of drawers as my daughter had to put her clothes in piles on the floor.

The upstairs bathroom is spacious having a has sink, toilet and large bath. It would have been nice to have a shower in this room, as with 5 people getting ready in the morning the single shower downstairs was a hot spot!!

The downstairs bathroom has a sink, toilet and shower. The shower space is spacious and the shower powerful, very nice.

The kitchen/dinner area is a little cramped, in fact we only ever ate together at the same time on a couple of occasions as there is not enough sitting at the dinner table for 5. We did drag the rocking chair in from the lounge on those occasions in order to sit 5 around the table. I think a little re-jigging of the table and the addition of a further chair would improve this.

The oven does not have any markings on the temperature control, so it's a lottery as to what temperature you are cooking food at. I think they have probably worn off over time. We cooked pizza once, but didn't risk cooking anything else without knowing the temperature.

The lounge is cosy and we spent a couple of evenings watching DVDs after a days walking.

“Comfy cottage, lovely location, excellent value”
Reviewed March 26, 2015 for a stay in March 2015

Thanks to the owners for accomodating a very last minute booking and an even nicer surprise to be greeted by such a well appointed cottage. Homely and comfortable in a great location, this suited us perfectly, just a pity our visit was so brief. Still a perfect excuse for a longer visit next time ! No hesitation in highly recommending the Rustic Barn.

“Beautiful barn in stunning surroundings”
Reviewed March 18, 2015 for a stay in March 2015

We stayed last weekend at this lovely little barn. There were 5 of us so seating arrangements were just right. The living, kitchen and dining areas are cosy and the kitchen had everything we could have wished for. Upstairs is beautiful, the soft furnishings are good quality and tasteful and the beds very comfy! Maybe a stool at the dressing table in the master bedroom would have helped as there was nowhere to sit at a mirror to get ready. There is no whirlpool bath, this has been replaced by a corner standard bath and a shower above it would be good for larger parties as we all had to take it in turns to use the one shower which is downstairs.
All in all a lovely stay in a cute barn in stunning countryside.

“Little Hidden Gem”
Reviewed February 25, 2015 for a stay in February 2015

We have just come back from a long weekend stopping at Rustic Barn, with my hubby, my 9yr old and my 7yr old and I can honestly say I cannot fault the place at all.

Spacious, warm, great location, beautifully decorated and the comfiest beds we have ever slept on.

And my children have told me to add that it is great for playing hide and seek in. They also enjoyed cycling their bikes around the courtyard playing cops and robbers.

The only downside was the weather which meant we could not do everything we wanted to, but saying that, it is a great excuse to go back to stay at this lovely cottage.

“Great stay, lovely cottage”
Reviewed February 9, 2015 for a stay in February 2015

We were a group of 3 friends so this was perfect for us. It would have been ok for 4 but 2 would have to share a double. The cottage was really cosy and very well appointed with a great shower. Nice pub less than 5 minutes walk and good access to Derbyshire walks. Overall really pleased with our stay. Only drawback was that the key box was hard to find when arriving in the dark.

“Fabulous cosy cottage in great location”
Reviewed January 1, 2015 for a stay in December 2014

A lovely cottage ideal for 4 with two dogs. We had the snow so once we got into the village we walked most places which was easy to do. Bakewell is only 40 mins walk in thick snow! A cosy and warm cottage with good Wi-Fi and very comfy sofas and a great view from the dining room and lounge. Dogs and teenagers appreciated the peace and quiet. Very welcoming village and Monsal Head is well worth a trip. Easy to book and great communications the whole way through.

“An amazing home from home cottage in a beautiful countryside location”
Reviewed September 29, 2014 for a stay in September 2014

We stayed at Rustic Barn from Friday evening to Sunday, the cottage is located in a beautiful village with stunning walks a couple of minutes walk. There are plenty of places to explore a short distance away including Monsal Head.
The cottage is cosy and everything you want in the rural Peak District including wifi and freeview so wife could keep up with the X Factor.
The furniture is all rustic as the name of the cottage suggests and sitting outside in the evening in the court yard you can lose yourself in the peace and tranquility.
A must visit to Youlgreave George pub, the food is amazing.
The bed in the master bedroom was extremely comfortable and we had one of the best nights sleep.
We will definitely be booking this cottage again and bringing our two children with us, most definitely for our summer holidays.
