Visited on a rainy Saturday night rather than walk into Bakewell while staying in the village. The bar is small and was quiet when we arrived but the restaurant side was busy. A real fire was going in the grate to warm us up and dry us off. The beer choice was good and you could even have a beer tapas to try a few - £3 for 3 thirds of ale. Food choice was good and came with either chips or mash, veg or salad. Rabbit and pheasant pie, mash, green beans, ratatouille was very nice, treacle tart and ice cream for pud was tasty (no choice of custard was my only complaint!). Nice atmosphere was livened up as diners came into the bar after their meal. All in all, a nice evening, reasonably priced and nice staff.

I have eaten and drunk here often.
The food is wholesome and cooked well, combined with the best view in the peak district, fresh well kept beer and a local feel it ticks all the boxes.

Been here many times but usually just for a drink - there is a wide range of well-kept beers from several different breweries, and usually at least one that I haven't tried before. We were walking with friends and decided to stop here for dinner. We were made welcome and sat in the bar. As usual the beer was on good form and the menu had some interesting choices. Unfortunately the food was no better than average; two of us had the venison stew which was OK but served in a pot and obviously microwaved, two others had the pasta which was fairly bland and tasteless (and served with chips!). Overall quite disappointing although the views from the bar window over Youlgreave and Stanton help to make up for it.

Me and some friends visited here some time ago whilst visiting the area, the experience was poor to say the least, the buffet was very very odd, with salad and etc. The choice of hot food again very poor with not a hint of a sunday lunch in sight. It was all very confusing when paying she undercharged 2 others in our party realised and then took the money off us and told us to get the money off our friends. The views at this place are amazing but i will never go to this pub again unless it revamped its food area and menu.
