Cowclose Farm bed and breakfast in set in lovely countryside close to many attractions. Chatsworth House, Matlcok, Bakewell, and Dovedale to name just a few. There are many walks that can be done from the farm also plenty in the area if you want to go further a field. , We were welcomed by the owner with the offer of a hot drink and cake which was welcome after the journey. The room was a good size very clean and had a lovely view. The room was tastefully decorated. There was various types of tea and coffee on the room tray. The only draw back it was not en suite but we did know this when we booked. The bathroom was only a few steps along the landing. again the bathroom was a good size and very clean and tastefully decorated. The breakfast choice was extensive, We had a cooked breakfast every day, it was cooked to perfection and served hot. There is a sitting room come breakfast room which is comfortable, There is a refrigerator if you need to keep picnic food. There was no problem with drying our boots after a wet walk

We had a week here in October 2013. It really is a "home from home" experience; relaxed, relaxing and absolutely un-fussy in every particular. Barbara and Alan are generous, helpful and informative hosts. The room was comfortable and appointed exactly as required, and the breakfasts should soon be legendary ! A great base for exploring the White Peak District, convenient for the bright lights of Chesterfield should one so wish, with most evenings augmented by the warmth, charm and excellent pub grub of The Gate Inn, a mere 100 yards across the road. We will be booking a return visit.

Room Tip: Discuss with owners first, no hardship there ! All rooms are quiet with good views, but there are d...

A warm and charming welcome (home-made mince pies!) in a location convenient for some of our favourite walks in the Peaks. Our room was clean and comfortable, and Barbara and Alan's award-winning breakfast really does deserve the awards. Absolutely smashing, and my first batch of oatcake batter is rising as I type.

Lovely warm welcome, scrupulously clean and very comfortable beds. Nice comfortable sofas in the lounge and superb breakfast. Ticked lots of boxes for what we were looking for for a one night stay whilst visiting Chatsworth which is only 4.5 miles away. Opposite a very friendly traditional pub which served good food. (Infact, use the pub as a good guide for where to turn for the B&B as they are virtually opposite and in the dark/dusk the pub - The Gate Inn - is more noticeable).Would definitely come again. For the very picky though, be aware that the Orchid twin room is not ensuite (not a problem at all for us as the very large and spotlessly clean bathroom was only at the other end of the hallway) and you are asked to give your breakfast order for the following day shortly after you arrive, which could be a niggle for some, but, bear in mind that does get you a fabulously fresh and tasty breakfast with locally sourced items and unusual choices such as home made smoked salmon fishcakes. See the full menu here http://www.cowclosebarn.com/documents/menu2.pdf. Lovely views from the bedroom window and TV with freeview channels as well as a well stocked welcome tray in the bedroom.

A big thank you to Alan and Barbara for the warm welcome and an immaculately prepared cottage (Swallows). We had a fantastic albeit damp weekend in which we visited nearby Chatsworth and several restaurants, a special mention to Heather at the Gate Inn just footsteps from the farm gate of Cowclose. highly recommended.

Super one night stay in this awesome B&B. Lovely view of garden and countryside from our room. Tea and cake on arrival was a super start and it just got better and better. Much of the food is homemade or local so you may need to stay a few days to sample it all. I had kippers for breakfast which were yummy ! This was a great part of our hollibobs ! Thankyou Barbara.

My partner and I stayed here for just one night in June. I can`t sing the praises of this beautiful B&B enough. We were met by a smiling Barbara and offered tea and cake to refresh us after our journey. We were given the Rose room which was lovely. It overlooked the back garden and stunning scenery, not to mention the cows which we watched with some amusement for quite some time..The only negative comment I can make is that although it was the middle of June (the weather was not very nice and it was very cold), we felt that some heating could have been put on in the bedroom during the evening. We had gone for a meal to the super restaurant/pub across the road and by time we had walked back we had both got very cold and a warm room would have been much appreciated. Other than this the stay was very pleasant and we would most definitely want to stay here again. Perhaps would like to try their Self Catering cottage which also looked very nice.
