“Good location”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 14, 2013

My wife and I and two friends from the US stayed here for 2 nights. This was our second stay at a Premier Inn, as before reception staff very welcoming and check-in completed easily and quickly. This is an excellent location for touring the Peak District and is located in the countryside and is very quiet, and only 6 miles from Chatsworth, a must visit for all. The only disappointment for my wife was the fact that although neither of the disabled rooms was available, which we understood when booking, we naturally assumed that in this day and age even a one storey building would have an elevator. This was not the case, and did make getting to our first floor rooms a little difficult. Feel the lack of this facility should have been made clearer on the web-site.

Dear Guest
Thank you for reviewing Chesterfield West Premier inn.

We are glad you enjoyed your stay with us and enjoyed the beautiful location we are set within.
With regards to the lift, due to planning height restrictions and the conversion of the 250 year old barn, there was no room for a lift shaft therefor the desion was made in planning as its only ground and first floor this would be acceptable.

We do try and give everyone the room they require whether it be up or on the ground floor, which is why we try and contact you 3 days before hand to see if any special requirements are needed.

There is a flag on premierinn.com booking page for our site that says we do not have a lift.
If you require any more assistance please contact me directly at site.
Kind regards

This was our first experience with a Premier Inn. We were told that this was England's answer to the chain hotels in America, so our expectations ran along those lines. Actually, it was very much less than that. The room was upstairs and there was no lift. We had a hundred pounds of luggage (because we had just completed a two week cruise). The room was small and the bathroom was, too. It took "forever" to check in because of computer problems -- ostensibly. The whole thing was a hurky-jerky affair. Breakfast was to have been included and they tried to charge us for it -- we showed a document indicating a free breakfast and those charges were reversed. BUT the breakfast at the Beefeater Restaurant next door was really first class -- the best part of the stay. But I probably won't try Premier, again.

Dear Guest
I am sorry to hear Premier inn did not live up to youre expectations.
Premier inn is a budget hotel, Chesterfield West is a very small site with only 25 bedrooms over two floors, in the middle of the country side, a vast difference from the big states in America, a lift was unable to be fitted due to the fabric of the converted 250 year old barn and planning restrictions.

Not all Premier inns are this small, the larger sites have over 100 bedrroms which can vary in size.
Should you have needed a hand with your luggage all you had to do was ask and we would of gladly given you assistance up with your bags.

I am sorry that there was a technical glitch with the checking in system, this does not happen very often and was just unfortunate to happen when you wanted to check in, this was not forseen therefore icould not be helped, so i apologise for that.

I have passed on your comments to the Beefeater team about breakfast.
Kind Regards

Stayed here for two nights 6th & 7th July. As ever with this chain we were not disappointed.
Check in was quick & efficient & staff were very welcoming.
We reserved a table for dinner but when we arrived we were told that there was 40 minute wait.
It was actually longer than that but any restaurant can havr problems & it was certainly not repeated the next night. Breakfast was good with our grandchildren eating free.
All in all we had a pleasant stay & that wad due mainly to the really friendly staff so a big thank you to them all.

Room Tip: Rooms at back have beautiful views & are quiet.

Dear Guest
Thank you for reviewing Chesterfield West Premier inn
We are glad your stay was pleasent.
I have passed on your comments to the Breakfast team who are always delighted to hear feedback, constructive or positive.

With regards to the dining experience, The Highwayman Beefeater is very popular, especially at the weekend and sometimes causes long waits due to the high volume of guests dining, even with a table being reserved you can still end of waiting for food due to the huge back log of checks in the kitchen.

I have passed your comments onto all the team.
Kind Regards

Best premier inn we have stayed in, good welcome by reception, Amy, who was later seen helping in bar of restaurant which again even though busy the staff had time to give an excellent service. Special mention to the attention given to my wife who had some dietary needs the service she received was excellent as a member of staff sat down with her an explained what they could do. Thank for a pleasant stay and attention befitting a top class hotel - except nothing was a problem to the staff here.

We stayed for one night, arriving late and not pre-booked. When I challenged the room rate of £97 (with breakfast), I was told that was the price because 'they knew they could fill the room'. There is nothing wrong with this hotel - it is a comfortable, standard Premier Inn with everything you would expect from any other Premier, including friendly staff, but the room rate (albeit 'off the street') is certainly not budget. In addition, the three stars is probably over generous if you take into account the adjoining Beefeater restaurant. We waited for 45 minutes to place our order, and it was almost impossible to get the attention of staff members. During our wait, we saw customers helping themselves to drinks lying on the bar because they had waited so long for service. Our waitress, who was clearly 'overrun', eventually took our order and then .... disappeared while we waited, and waited. When she did reappear, we overheard her advise a colleague that it was the end of her shift (about 9.30pm?) followed by "... Can you ring through a coke and a pint of Tetleys for that table over there. Oh, and their food is ready in the kitchen". We later heard that the staff at this Beefeater had won a trip to Florida for being the 'best' team at something, but our dinner experience suggested it had little to do with looking after customers. Such a shame, since the food was actually very good - when it arrived. The following morning, we had a first class breakfast, and staff members who had clearly earned the 'best' team award - oh the inconsistency! Premier Inns are great for comfortable no frills (normally budget priced) accommodation. This one was okay, but we are unlikely to use again due to the price and the evening restaurant service.

Dear Guest
Thank you for your feedback regarding Chesterfield West Premier inn.
Premier inn uses dynamic pricing across the estate and since we are in peak season the prices at this Premier inn are higher due to the location and popularity.
We only have 25 rooms and are a very popular site.
Our prices are in line with surrounding hotels to offer the guest the choice of the location they wish to stay at.
Unlike most hotels in the area with Premier inn you pay for the room not per person so split the cost down from £97.00 to £48.50 each, we are infact one of the cheapest hotels in the peak district.

I have passed on your comments to the Beefeater team who were deeply upset they did not live up to your expectations.
The Highwayman is a very popular site that gets very busy especially in the summer, the team do work very hard to make sure every guest receives a great guest journey and have been recognised by the management of the company who will be flying the team to Disney land Paris, to say thank you.
If you wish to know any more please feel free to contact me direct at site.
Kind regards

Stayed here for one night as it is so close to Chatsworth.
We were in room 12 which is directly above the reception area, but it wasn't too noisy. Just the usual comings & goings you'd expect of a premier inn.
The air conditioning unit had a mind of its own.. Turning itself on & off overnight!!
The shower was lovely, I didn't want to get out!!!
The breakfast was fine, a bit pricey, but what you'd expect of a beefeater.

Dear Guest,
Thankyou for taking the time to review Chesterfield west Premier inn.

We are so glad to hear you're room was comfortable and not too noisey being near the road and that you enjoyed the powerful shower.

With regards to the air heating system, this is designed to come on early morning to warm the room up and go off in the day and then on again mid afternoon.
If however the rooms reaches the required temp in the mean time it will switch off and vice versa, so i am sorry that that disturbed your sleep, But thanks to Premier inn's good night Guarentee you were welcome to the refund on the room.
We look forward to seeing you again in the future

Having never stayed at a Premier Inn until 18 months ago, I am now almost a veteran! However, it is very noticeable that if you stay over a weekend, the prices are not particularly keen. This one scored highly on its lovely surroundings and proximity to nearby great houses (we came straight from Hardwick Hall and visited Chatsworth and Kedleston from it). See separate review for the excellent Peacock Restaurant/Inn nearby. As ever, the staff were well-trained, friendly and helpful. The room was also as ever, very clean, very purple and the bed extremely comfortable. The bathroom was impeccable and the shower voted the tops by husband. There was only one small chair and no sofa or anything else to sit on. The Beefeater was fine - what you see is what you get - and the breakfasts excellent. It was very busy on the Friday evening and at breakfast, but well organised and efficiently served. If you detect a note of hesitation it is because of 5 nights away in three different hotels (including a beautiful old one in the Cotswolds, and a grand old one in Harrogate centre) this was the most expensive B & B rate! Grateful for 30 mins free wi-fi, although much of it was spent trying to obtain the signal! All in all, a very good place to stay for visiting Chatsworth et al (although not or first choice) but probably better value during the week.

Room Tip: Ours was at the back and very quiet.

Dear Guest
Thankyou for taking the time to review us at Chesterfield West Premier inn.
We are glad you thought your room was clean and comfortable, if you had wished for another chair in your room, we encourage guests to pop back to reception and if it was avalible we would have brought it up for you.

With regards to the pricing structure Premier inn uses dynamic pricing, so if there is an event in the area or close by this does affect the price of the rooms.
On the dates you stayed we were full and there was an event on at Chatsworth which is is why the price was higher.

For our best prices, book through www.premierinn.com
