“Lovely peaceful village”
Reviewed November 5, 2013

We stayed for 3 nights in October. Cortelazor is a lovely village in the Sierra de Aracena, nestled in the hills. It is off the beaten track and well worth the stay. Stuart and Annette are wonderful hosts and make you feel very welcome. The Casa has 4 simply furnished comfortable bedrooms. Breakfasts are excellent and consist of home made breads, jams, and local meats and cheeses. There is a lovely terrace on which you can relax and enjoy the views across the valley. The stay was excellent value for money.
It is a perfect spot to relax and chill out. There is a large network of local paths for walks and the hosts will lend you maps. The village is surrounded by cork oak and sweet chestnut woods where black Iberico pigs are kept. Lots of nature and brirdlife to be seen. Stuart and Annette are a fount of knowledge about the local area and will give lots of tips on places to go/eat in/see.The village has a couple of small shops and 2 bars. A greatlargely undscovered part of the world-we'll be back

Long overdue review, last visit was pre-November 2012 but Tripadvisor's when did you travel box only goes back twelve months. We have been here possibly four times since it was renovated in 2005/6. Casa Annette is a charming renovated four bedroom townhouse run by an expat Scot and expat Scandinavian with the able assistance of their four cats. Home cooking is of a high standard and meals can often be enjoyed on the rear terrace. The village of a Cortelazor is tiny (pop 350) and hosts Stuart. & Annette know everyone, and vice versa. Late nights in the square partaking of beers are almost obligatory as is a visit to the quirky Bar Boomerang, as typical an Andaluciian pub as you could hope to find, with its emphasis on family, football and the sense of community which pervades the place. A new 25m swimming pool was constructed in 2013 of which the villagers are especially proud seemingly, providing an instant excuse for a return visit, not that much urging is required. The surrounding area is popular with bird watchers and walkers, a relatively easy trek to neighbouring Fuenteheridos being rewarded with a choice of hostelries and authentic local eateries. Nearest easy parking to Casa Annette is usually about 150 - 200m away but you may be lucky enough to score a space in the village square: though in common with most Andalucian villages the streets near the centre are narrow with some being one way.

Spending 5 days in Cortelazor was the perfect antidote to a busy lifestyle. Casa Annette is in a beautiful location and we couldn't have asked for more.
Annette and Stuart were excellent hosts and each day was a delight, from waking up to siesta time to finally falling asleep in the evening.
Cortelazor is a small village with a big heart - you can do nothing or you can do lots - walking, swimming, relaxing... five days wasn't enough to do the area justice.
Food at Casa Annette was fantastic and Stuart and Annette's knowledge of the area and its food was second to none.
If you're considering a relaxing holiday, take it here. We can't wait to go back!

Room Tip: All rooms are double, but Annette and Stuart would consider any requests, I know.

Amazing little B^B tucked away in the hills. Very Spanish feel from the hosts with excellent service, heaps of local knowledge and a rustic feel to the whole experience. Slept in double front room and apart from the chime of the church tower the place has a quiet serenity to it. Hosts Stuart and Annette are fabulous people providing a tailored service. Try the local Bars Plaza and Boomerang 200m from the door or sit in the green rich patio at the back. Came here to relax and left chilled and stress-free

We stayed at this lovely place in August on our trip through Andalucia. The welcome was the best possible; the lovely hosts take good care of their guests and give any assistance and help required. We espacially enjoyed the yummy dinner on the spacious terrace and the drinks in the authentic bars in the village centre just a convenient minute walk away. We will be back to the place of the best Pata Negra. Thanks again! Best regards from Upper Frankonia

As a traveler you rarely get to feel so much at the heart of things as you do here. Casa Annette is situated in a quiet lane in the beautiful white-painted village of Cortelazor, a few miles from Aracena. Each of the bedrooms is beautifully decorated in traditional style and the whole building has a magical, slightly retro atmosphere, though the bathrooms are reassuringly modern.
This is a Bed and Breakfast with hosts who really seem to care about your holiday and are ready with advice and information on the surrounding countryside (about which they are very well informed) without ever being pushy or intrusive. The breakfast was wonderful, with home-made preserves and simply the best of everything. Dinner is offered as an optional extra at a very reasonable cost and proved to be the best meal I've ever had in Spain, with seasonal fresh wild mushrooms, and locally sourced meat and vegetables.
There's an enormous terrace to the rear of the property where you can sit an watch the swallows, feast your eyes on the distant hills beyond and simply relax.
The village itself is small but vibrant, centered round a church and square and boasting two bars (one with excellent tapas) and easy access to the marvelous walking countryside around. There is also a brand new community swimming pool , but at the time of writing that is only open in the summer.

Room Tip: The rooms at the back are a little quieter.
