The B&B at Pentre Tai Farm came as a very pleasant surprise. We'd been looking for somewhere to use as the base for a mountain biking weekend and we were referred to Pentre Tai by another B&B. We only really needed somewhere low-cost and convenient - which indeed it was - but we also found spacious, comfortable rooms, a pleasant sitting room and a warm welcome.
The location is ideal for the mountain biking. It's literally 10 minutes' drive from Cwmcarn and about half an hour from Bike Park Wales. Lockable bike storage is also available on-site.
Returning from the trails we were glad to discover a good pub nearby. The Rhiwderin Inn is within walking distance and offers affordable, unpretentious food cooked to a good standard. The portions are particularly generous and the beer is good.
Special mention goes to Pentre Tai's owners, George and Sue, who bring plenty of character to the place. The B&B is part of a working farm and it doesn't feel quite as twee as some of the more outwardly touristy establishments - you won't find any oak beams or frilly four-poster beds - but it's an excellent base from which to explore South Wales and very good value for money.
