“Rotten potatoes and burnt food”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 16, 2013

We went for a family meal to the The Old Barn Inn last night and were disappointed by the meal we had here. While the other people in my groups meals were adequate, typical pub grub the pesto and cherry tomato tart ordered was of a poor standard. The new potatoes that came with the dish were not so "new" being wrinkly and past there best, one which had been served was black on the outside and on cutting it open it became obvious it was rotten. It shouldn't have been served in this state. The brie and cherry tomato tart was burnt and inedible in parts as it was so overcooked. The portions at The Old Barn Inn are generous, but we would of been happier with smaller meal sizes with better quality ingredients and more care taken in their cooking. The cost of the meal was not cheap £20 a head for two courses and a soft drink each.

What a visual pleasure our visit gave us, we had popped in just for a drink, we were met with a large clean carpark, The walls were a show piece of flowers, up a few steps (there is a ramp as well )
Went into the lounge,we were greeted by the staff, a few smiles and hellos go such a long way to make you feel welcome.
Although we were not eating ,did have a look at the menu, something for most guests , and the food when served ,Wow! it looked wonderful. again the surroundings, were something to be proud of, flowers and views, spoilt as to where to look first,
So impressed we have booked a meal, so may get back to you later.

We booked a three night stay here and have nothing but praise for the hotel, rooms, cleanliness and staff. The food was excellent with the best steak & ale pie we have ever had! Georgina was a super efficient waitress!! She worked her socks off and I am sure we saw her getting thinner by the day. Sue the lovely lady who served our breakfast with such a lovely attitude. The weather was extremely warm whilst we were there and such a lovely touch to find an electric fan already in the bedroom. The bathroom was large, with a super bath with large wide end for a shower. The whole hotel was spotlessly clean and we would recommend it to anyone. Oh, one last point - the bathrooms had quilted toilet paper! So good after the wafer thin rolls one often gets!!!

My stay at the Old Barn Inn was very pleasant and I have nothing bad to stay about the place. Upon check in we were shown to our room by a friendly member of staff. The room was modern, spacious and felt very clean and new. The decor was nice and surrondings were lovely-Llanmartin is a quiet little village and although you could see the M4 in the distance you couldn't hear it and it certainly didn't effect our stay.

In the evening we dined in the restaurant and the meal was lovely. It may have been a little on the pricey side but was well worth it. It would be a good idea to book on the weekend as it's fairly small but very busy. Breakfast the following morning was really tasty and included within the room price.

The Old Barn Inn is very close to the M4 and Newport and in a good location. Definitely a little hotel I would recommend staying in and while you are there I would also enjoy a meal at thd restaurant.

We stayed just for one night, wish we could have stayed longer. The evening meal was lovely, the staff superb, especially the waitress who served breakfast ! she was a joy to meet. The bedroom was nice, we were lucky to have the end one looking over the fields. The only criticism is the bath plug which does not stay in, so it has to be held whilst you have a bath !! We cannot recommend this little jewel of a hotel high enough, we will go back .

Being from Canada, we were looking forward to staying at the Old Barn inn and experiencing the quaintness of this old Inn. What a surprise and disappointment when we entered the lounge and found it very modern with nothing really old about it, except for the beams in the high ceiling. We were even more disappointed when we found that we had to go outside to the annex for our room. The room was ultra modern and did not fit the name of the Old Barn Inn. The walls were thin and I could hear the person in the next room snoring and using the toilet. I think they could have made the whole place look very old and quaint. The restaurant and atrium were nice and the food was good. The staff were very friendly and the room was clean. Personally i wouldn't stay there again.

My husband and I held our wedding reception here just 3 days ago and we couldn't have picked a better venue! Food was totally amazing, the staff are very helpful and friendly and the owner, Jackie, really takes the stress out a lot of the planning by setting the room up for you and dealing with table decorations. The rooms were spotless and the location picturesque. Can not praise The Old Barn Inn or its staff enough!
