I have been for 3 nights in Praia D'El Rey Marriot during a corporate event. The place is great for a quick city escape from Lisbon, just 1 hour away, to relax a couple of days. The beach is very good for surfing without much crowd. The water is a little bit cold and, most of the time, the waves are not suitable for swimming. However, on low tide, I recommend a sunset jogging on the beach. The resort is close to Peniche, the portuguese surf capital, where you can find great affordable fresh fish restaurants. Dispite the waves, the resort pools are fantastic, blue turquoise water, big enough to swim, sheltered from the wind and with good snack-bar support. The rooms are comfortable, as expected on any other Marriot, and the hotel have great facilities including a huge gym and indoor pool. The Portuguese Football Team usually comes to this hotel during 2-3 weeks May for preparation of the tournaments (including Cristiano Ronaldo)! The hotel is 20 Km away from Óbidos, a medieval village with fantastic athmosphere. Don't forget to try "ginginha" on any street "taberna". The food is quite good for a resort with several options for different prices. I believe that the resort is very oriented for beginer golf players, and there are several packages available. Take in consideration that the weather in Óbidos is fine, compared with north and center Europe, but is not the hottest spot in Portugal. However, this place is much quiet that most of the resorts and beaches in Algarve.

Room Tip: The rooms with view to the golf are less exposed to the wind and cheaper. However, you cannot see the sunset on this rooms. The balcony doesn't have much privacy but is lovely for reading a book and have a tea or coffee.

The hotel is really well kept, have gorgeous views, the best staff - lovely people - and really nice decorated rooms and lounges. The beds are comfortable and you can have a lot of cosy pillows if you wish! The food gives you nothing to complain for and the service is splendid. Breakfast is rich. Are you looking for lazy days in the sun by the ocean or you go here for golf, then you should be satisfied. But I was disappointed, had expected more from the area to be interesting. And, I am afraid it is totally chaos in the summertime. Very, very crowded I believe. And away from everything else. And last, the beach... It is enormous, beautiful and wild. But it didn´t give me that feelgood-feeling, I felt a little trapped between the ocean and the rocks.

We just arrived home after one week staying at the Praia D'EL Rey. Located next to a golf course.
It is only a one hour drive from the airport og the gighway, so it is easy to get there.
You need a car to get around, the hotel is located a bit from the golf Course and about 10 min. drive from Raoyal Obidos GC, whcih is a very nice golf course but also with more difficult greens, much much faster than we are used to...
The rroms are out of this world. We have never had such a big - ordinary - room, there are 2 big beds ( would say each is for 1½ person) and the bathroom has a shower in the bath, with all the equipment you need, soap, shampoo, conditioner, body lotion, haiydryer and lost of towels.
Thre was coffe and teamaking facilities, and a mini bar. We did not use any of them.
Balcony facing the sea, not needed while we stayed there since it was cold and windy, but a lovely view.
Breakfast had everything you could ask for and the waiters werevery serviceminded, and friendly.
I can highly recommend this Hotel if you want to play golf and live well while you do so.

Room Tip: We stayed at room # 278, a good walk away from the recetion but nice a quiet and with a good view. A nice room in the corner.

As we have place out here we visit regularly and by far the best local restaurant to the resort is the fine dining at Romy's situated within the Marriott. Excellent cuisine and excellent service. A nice place to visit if you want to treat yourself when you are away and dress up for an evening. A mixture of Poruguese and International cuisine. Beautifully presented and excellent waiting staff. Not too expensive for the quality of food. Well worth a visit.

We were pleasantly surprised with how beautiful the hotel and the grounds were. The resort is right on the coast, with picturesque walking paths and stairs down to the beach. We came in the off-season, but I could see how popular this place would be in the summer months. The hotel, while slightly outdated with the carpets, decor, etc. was comfortable and the staff was friendly. Full breakfast buffet in the morning with lots of choices. Would definitely stay there again! Well worth the drive from Madrid. :)

Room Tip: Make sure to get an ocean view room!
