The ride towards the Monastry is breathtaking, a long ride through canyons and rocks ends with the Noravank Monasty upon hill. Certainly the most beautiful located monastry in Armenia.

This monastery is way the most beautiful when it comes to location or architecture. It is located near Areni, about 120 km from Yerevan. The road that leads to it is not very good so for us it took a good 2 hours to get to the monastery. The hills have a beautiful red color here and the scenery is really breathtaking. It is also a great place for birdwatching and in the evenings bears might be seen, too. Of course, you have to be very lucky for that.
The monastery is well kept and there is a restaurant near to is. If you fancy a hike, there are some trails around the monastery.
So far Noravank was the most beautiful place I've visited in Armenia.

This is not too far from Yerevan. 100-120 km. it was built in 13 th century . The entrance is free . And there Is not a crowd there. It means that you can view every detail and nobody will bother you. And not far are places where you can taste Armenian kitchen

Went to Noravank, October, 2013. It is magnificient and the landscape is the closest thing, I think, to heaven. It is a holy, serene spot that should be experienced by all!

This is a gorgeous place both in terms of the location as well as the architecture. We took a trip from Yerevan after a stop at Khor Virap & Areni Village. As the road leads towards Noravank, you see beautiful red hills on both sides (Noravank is situated high up, but in a gorge). The area is also great for bird watching.

As you enter the complex, you see brilliant hues of colors. The lovely khachkars dotted around the Monastery are exquisite. But the most impressive structure is that of Surb Astvatsatsin Church. It's a two storeyed church with narrow steps leading up in a reverse V with no balustrade to support you on the open side. Relatively easy to climb up, but knee knocking coming down. But once you are up there the view is gorgeous. We had a beautiful autumn day when we went there, with clear blue skies & brilliant red rocks around & lovely flowers growing around the complex. I saw pictures of the complex during winter & it looks stunning covered in the snow too!

A must see if you are in Armenia - dont miss this one!
