Boxing Day lunchtime, travelling back home after Christmas with family. Determined to avoid motorway services. Came off the M6 at Junction 15 (Stoke), picked up the A34 and discovered this delight. No booking? No problem. We don't have any tables free in the restaurant, but you're welcome to eat in the lounge if that's OK. Drinks in front of a glorious log fire; views over Barlaston Common; and freshly prepared food, well presented without fuss on what was obviously a busy day at the office. What a delight to come across such welcoming and accommodating hospitality in this country and how different from the frequent response, "Sorry. We're fully booked". Well worth another visit and possibly a stay to visit the Wedgewood Museum or Trentham Gardens.

Excellent service and lovely food. The table for four in the window has great views of the garden and beyond.

We had a very good afternoon cream tea here (which was a gift!). The Upper House used to belong to Josiah Wedgwood's grandson so is interesting from that point of view, and it's a lovely house - the wood panels in the lounge were beautiful. The room where we had our tea was very pleasant and had some Wedgwood pottery on the mantelpiece. The service was good and the cream tea was very tasty - we had plenty to eat!

We wandered around the garden afterwards, which was well looked after.

Two colleagues and I had a 'leaving do' lunch here and were very pleased with the setting, service and food. The set menu offers an interesting and varied choice of options and is very tasty and good value for money. We stayed on and chatted after all the other diners had left and staff were happy to let us do so, they didn't hover or make us feel we should really be leaving. This approach, the lovely setting, excellent service and tasty food has left us with a very positive impression and all three of us will be returning with our family and friends. Their afternoon tea looks good so that will be our next outing to the Upper House.
