I stayed at The Upper House as part of a party of 15 colleagues from work staying overnight in the area. The hotel is beautifully situated in attractive gardens and grounds. Everyone was very pleased with their rooms - clean, spacious and comfortable with lovely views.

The main body of the hotel is of a traditional Victorian style with wood paneling covering many of the walls. There was a particularly attractive sitting room at the front of the hotel which you could imagine with a roaring fire and Christmas tree in December. By contrast, the bar has been decorated in a more modern style which, to my taste, did not fit with the rest of the hotel.

We had dinner in the conservatory area adjacent to the main restaurant. Despite being a large party and there being a number of other diners, the meal was served with minimum fuss and we were well looked after. Breakfast the next day was well cooked.

Certainly somewhere I would be more than happy to stay at again.

My husband and I arrived to celebrate our wedding anniversary and had the Garden Suite. The room was very clean with a view over the rear garden which was beautiful. We had the Afternoon Tea which was delicious and later enjoyed a three course dinner. Our table throughout our stay was the best in the house overlooking the gardens and wonderful views. We were served by very attentive staff and our extra special thanks goes to David, a perfect gentleman who made our stay so wonderful. We thoroughly enjoyed our time at the Upper House and will definitely be back.

Was traveling through the area and was looking for an excellent meal for the family, after walking past a 'chain' 2 for a tenner type pub, I decided to trip adviser a restaurant. This gem popped up and was only 10 minutes further walk up the hill and was a treat, we walked up the drive and entered and just asked if they were serving evening meals for non resident guests. They welcomed us with great smiles and took us to the bar area for pre drinks following ordering our meal we were shown our table in the dining area. The food was first class and was great value for the 4star quality dining. 4 adults 3 courses and 2 drinks was just over £100 in total.

Had the pleasure of getting married at The Upper House May 2012. An amazing and intimate venue, with excellent staff and fantastic amenities.
Plan on going back at least every May for an anniversary meal - as have done this year!
Stunning location - a photographic gem!

Me and my partner had our wedding here last year, all the staff were extremely friendly, the food was excellent and everything was done as we asked even down to breakfast the next morning. We had an amazing day and would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a venue.

My first choice when working in Stoke.

Short notice reservation, for a one night stay in the garden room. Good size room, well equipped, overlooking a conservatory extension. Second visit to this excellent hotel, unfortunately arrived too late for an evening meal but enjoyed my Potter's breakfast. As effectively a potteries "ex pat" now resident in darkest East Lancashire, for 30 plus years, still haven't managed to kick the oatcake habit!

Friendly, efficient staff, good food and a high standard of accommodation all combine to make The Upper House a comfortable and relaxing place to stay.

An excellent hotel, in fine Staffordshire countryside.

This was like an oasis after a hellish Bank Holiday journey up the M6, a charming small country house south of Stoke on Trent. Very elegant house, stunning gardens, and a cute family room in the eaves with one of the most comfortable beds ever. Then we were astonished by the quality of the food, absolutely superb, both at dinner and breakfast. My only dislikes were the bar, which is tucked out of sight with horrible furniture, and should really be located in the sweet sitting room off the hall. Secondly the lighting. Please please please can the slightly more old fashioned hotels use candles, lamps and low lighting instead of bright overhead lighting at night?

Room Tip: Ask if a wedding is going on as you will be disturbed if you are above the wedding room.
