Owner description: For a unique experience and a very warm welcome, the stunning Wedgwood Museum is the place to visit - whether you just like looking at beautiful objects or have a specialist interest. We are the home of one of the most interesting ceramic collections in the world. Our galleries tell the story of Josiah Wedgwood, his family, and the company he founded two-and-a-half centuries ago. New visitor experience for 2015! As a result, we are closing the site to customers from 24th December 2014 through until June 2015.

“Much More Than Pottery!”
Reviewed November 18, 2011

This is a fabulous attraction & provides so much more than a history of the pottery, it is also a social history of the era & provides a fascinating insight into this forward-thinking man & his extended family. The artefacts are well presented & there are a lot of interactive exhibits. What is also of interest is the threads that run between the Wedgwood family & other notaries of the same period, eg Darwin. In addition to the exhibits there is also a factory tour (at certain times of the year) this is also a must & so interesting. The museum is within the visitor's centre & there are a number of shops & seconds outlets plus a cafe & restaurant. There is such a lot to see here that you must allow as much time as possible - or come back again!!

“Wonderful museum set close to the factory but in the middle of countryside”

Relatively new museum under threat from the Wedgewood pension fund. Very few visitors for a Saturday. Superb exhibits with informative displays.

“Very interisting”
Reviewed September 3, 2011

We did enjoy the Wedgwood centre and its museum.
We had the opportunity to be shown the different manufacturing processes, including the emailing and gilding of potteries. We also visited the Manufacture shop.
If you want to visit the Wedgwood Museum, you have to pay, otherwise it is free.

“Very interesting museum, but the layout could be a little better”
Reviewed August 7, 2011

We visited the Museum during our afternoon on site at the Visitor Centre. I have to say we were a little disappointed with the layout as it was easy to miss parts unless you were really methodical about looking at each numbered cabinet/display in chronological order (not always easy).

There is a huge amount of stuff to see, and you would probably need to devote a good three hours just to go around the Museum.

Nonetheless, it was all very interesting.

“Fascinating and fun, the hours flew by.”

Don't give up on the brown signs, follow the country lanes for a great experience. The Josiah Wedgwood story was fascinating and it was a joy to see three centuries of quality pottery and porcelain. We enjoyed delicious homemade cake in the tearooms and of course brought home a bargain from the factory shop. It was great fun to throw a pot and watch skilled craftsmen at work. Given more time would have decorated my pot as well! Suggest leave plenty of time for your visit if you enjoy well presented social history and hands on fun.
