“One night only!”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 14, 2013

Me and my partner decided to stay here for the night as we were passing through, don't get me wrong the price was very good. However, our stay was horrific. Firstly, the fusty smell hit us as soon as we walked up the stairs. Our door would not lock so we had to use a chair to put in front of the door, Our windows were bolted shut so we couldn't get any fresh air and the radiators were on full. There were chips and knocks in all of the furniture in the room and god knows how old the bed was, hard and lumpy, plus the sheets gave static shocks every time you moved. The bath had marks all along the bottom and pubic hairs round the toilet seat. The area was awful and we felt very unsafe, we couldn't wait to get out quick enough in the morning. When checking out we had to wait at least 10 minutes for a member of staff to come to our attention to collect our keys and even then she was very rude. Very poor hotel, I would not recommend it to anyone. Will not be returning.

This is a charming historic hotel that's rather rough around the edges and was definitely long past its glory days. In general, it's pretty big and looks nice enough with its huge chandeliers and wide, winding staircase, however there was NO elevator and therefore rather tricky with lots of heavy baggage. The staff in general was ok, but there was one girl in particular (Chelsea) working there who was a multi-tasking genius (working the front desk, bar-tending, waitressing and cooking in the restaurant!) and very sweet and helpful. Being that an elevated train track runs directly next to the hotel and it's located on a corner so there's lots of traffic around it, be prepared to sleep with earplugs! We were in room 117, which had 1 twin and 1 full-sized bed and was rather large, but the train ran about 2 meters from our window. Adventurous! Haha! The room was clean, but the beds had seen better days and the mattresses were uneven and sagging in the middle. The bathroom had huge windows and therefore plenty of light during the day, but the shower had very little water pressure and the positioning of the shower head was difficult because it was non-adjustable and the water simply trickled straight down and did not spray onto you, as would be optimal! So, I just held onto it. :-) Parking was adequate and free, wi-fi was free, though spotty, the drinks were cold and the food was hot, tasty and very reasonably priced. I'm not a girl who needs a ton of luxury, so this was just fine for one night.

Room Tip: Well, seeing as the train tracks run directly beside the hotel, I'm not sure if you can escape t...

We foolishly didn't read Trip Advisor before we booked. People read things on here and give it the benefit of the doubt ... please don't! There was hairs in one of our beds, a cracked cieling in one of the rooms, blood on one of the curtains, and disgustingly moulded shower curtains. The bar downstairs attracted the local riff raff. We came up for a phrase which kept us laughing the whole weekend ... eeeh worra dump! If it wasn't for the comedy, we would have went insane. The best part about the hotel was checking out. A guy in front of us checking out summed everything up with "this whole weekend has been a catalogue of disaster!" I know you don't expect much for £19.50pppn, but I did expect more than we got ... a hell of a lot more!

Basically, the area, hotel and staff on a whole were all disgusting, to put it simply, it was a dump. When, on the way down, we read that there were blood stains on the walls and gallivanting youths running wild outside we instantly thought of Shameless, but on a budget. The hotel is in a dire state, the smell of stale alcohol and urine parades the corridors accompanied by the loud taunts and moans of drunken visitors interacting with one another in a way only comparable to a scene from planet earth, you wouldn't be blamed for expecting David Attenborough to pop up and narrate over these hellish scenes and the locals, lets just say, they looked more Texas chainsaw massacre than they did welcoming. The place is definitely a hotspot for human 'left overs' as well, the cleaners have obviously never heard of hoovers as there were several curious looking curly hairs in the beds, our shower curtain also had an odd looking brown stain along with clear red finger marks streaked down the bottom side, someone somewhere obviously had a good time. Definitely would not recommend staying here, it was a dump!

Room Tip: Pick a room that isn't in this hotel.

this is the worst hotel I have ever stayed in and I have stayed in quite a few in my time. yes it is cheap but I at least expected a proper mattress on the bed I could feel the springs and I have been home for 3 days now and my back still hurts. The room stank of smoke which proves the smoke alarms do not work which is a health and safety risk. I didnt eat the food as the thought of it made me feel sick so we went out to eat at a local pub one night and got a takeaway on the second night. The floors were creaky and the lack of security is obvious as we were kept up during the night with drunken people or children running up and down the corridor. dont even get me started on the type of people that sat and drank in the bar they were a right state. this place is an absolute dump and i do not recommend it to anyone with standards. i was horrified by the lack of cleanliness. I felt dirtier after a shower than what I did beforehand. we were in a group of 6 and one of us found a pubic hair in our bed, absolutely disgusting, dont even think they bother to clean the bedding. DO NOT stay here if you do not want to catch some kind of disease.

Words cannot describe just how horrendous our stay in this dire establishment was. The worst experience of our lives. Trust me, "If you make it through the night, don't risk making it through breakfast." Vile!!!!

I stayed at this hotel as part of A group of 12 visiting alton towers. After reading some reviews we weren't expecting much but we were pleasantly surprised. For what we paid the hotel was perfect. The staff brilliant they kept the bar open very late and humoured us when we were drunk. We will defiantly be staying again. To those complaining if u want a five star then pay for it!
