Our second visit here and we found it just as good as the first. (Even better in fact, as this time we discovered the switch for underfloor heating in the bathroom!) The annex (6A) has everything you need for convenience, including a fridge, hairdryer, ironing board, cutlery and crockery for snacks or takeaways. (We don't know of any other guesthouses this accommodating.) In the evenings you can sprawl on the sofa in front of the huge TV, or even better, prop yourselves up with pillows to watch from the comfort of a lovely soft bed. There are excellent transport links from the bus station across the road. Birmingham is under an hour away (we took a short bus trip to catch the train) while pottery enthusiasts could catch the X1 to the Wedgwood Centre or the 20A to Moorcroft. There is detailed information about getting to Alton Towers in the information folder in the room. All in all, we found the annex excellent value for £47 a night. Additionally we paid £5 each to start the day with a tasty and generous breakfast.

My hubby and I were looking forward to visit our friends in Stoke-on-Trent. As it is four of us (two adults, 4 years old and nearly 2 years old) we decided to stay in B&B.

I book a family room well in advance, so few days before our trip I've decided to phone the owners to double check if everything is ok. The nice lady has told me that in fact there's a problem with my booking - the room we've booked has been given to somebody who arrived for a longer stay. I have been offered 2 double bedrooms for £80. As the family room is only £48 I started to negotiate the price and managed to get a "deal" of £72. That's room(s) only! I don't want to think what would happen if we would arrive on Saturday to find out there's no room for us as the owners didn't even phoned to apologies and to offer a solution.
My hubby decided it is too much anyway and as this was B&B's fault, they should accommodate us for the same price, which has eventually been offered, however as both rooms were two doors away from each other and boys are too small to sleep on their own in strange place we decided to look for another place to stay.

We have managed to find a family room for £61.99 (breakfast included) in Holiday Inn Express.
I can't wait to write review for them! :)

Great rooms, comfy beds, very nicely decorated, great value for money as you wouldn't find anything as good as this place for those prices and a nice location lots of places to visit. It's all good fun.

We would recommend this guest house and have no complaints whatsoever.
The room was clean, warm, had a comfortable bed, excellent bathroom, large wall mounted television & DVD, a small fridge, hairdryer, iron & board, tea & coffee making facilities, private parking and adequate storage. There was no unwelcome noise from other guests or from outside which considering the time of year was perhaps unlikely. Room & hotel security was good.
Good location for city centre adjacent to the bus station.
Must add that the lady we met (landlady's Mum) was very friendly.
The only reason that we have not given a full 5 star rating regarding value is because we often take advantage of the very cheap offers from the big chains.

Bit dubious of staying here due to some of the negative reviews and overall quite underwhelmed by our stay at this guest house. I booked a twin en suite room well in advance of arrival. However, although our greeting was friendly, when we arrived we were told that there were no twin rooms available, and asked if a double non ensuite would be OK. As we had no alternatives that I knew about locally we had to take this room, despite it being the complete opposite of what was booked. The lady who greeted us didn't seem to have a clue what was going on.

The room itself (8) was OK, a bit small overall but furnished satisfactorily. The bed was rather narrow for a double, and on arrival one of the complimentary mini milk cartons had already been used and the teaspoon was sticky suggesting it was dirty. These weren't replenished during our stay either. The bed was OK to sleep in, the TV made an annoying buzzing sound though when you watched it. There was nowhere to hang our towels either. The room was warm and the heating good though. The room appeared to be clean apart from the aforementioned teaspoon.

The shared bathroom was clean but on neither evening was hot water readily available in the shower, both nights the water was luke warm at best.

The location of the guesthouse is perfect for the bus station (we stayed there to get the 32A bus to Alton Towers) and this probably was the best aspect of the stay. The area itself is a little run down but we had no issues.

We didn't have breakfast here, instead eating at the Coffee Bar in Hanley Bus Station, which was decent. Overall I probably wouldn't return. The price was £44 a night, which is not all that good value considering the problems mentioned.
