The two of us went for a light dinner. A minestrone soup each, and a main course fettucine each. We brought our own bottle of wine and ordered a large bottle on meneral water. Pleasant staff and nice atmosphere.

The soup was nice but nothing special, and the pasta just average. Both courses came with parmesan on top, a problem as one of us dislikes parmesan; the waitress tried to tell us this was normal in Italian restaurants. I guess she does go to many, or maybe we just spend too much time in Leichardt.

The menu states thet "mixed vegetables or mixed salad are complimentary with main course". When I asked the waitresss during the course of our meal she advised that that does not appply to main course sized pastsa dishes. I didn't feel like arguing.

So 2 soups. 2 main course pastas (one of which was unpalatable due to the cheese), no complimentary salad, mineral water and corkage - $99. Be your own judge.

I had lived in St Ives area for a number of years and had driven past this restaurant numerous occasions. I had heard that it was "average" so steered clear. Well what a surprise we had. The restaurant has a tuscan region theme and as we had been to Tuscany only 6 months ago for the first time - we can say we immediately felt like we were back there, the decor, the smell and the atmosphere from the moment we walked in. The chef is from the Tuscany region and does a great job of bringing his home town flavours to Australia. Food was simple and delicious, although beware the servings are large!

We had dinner with friends and all brought our young kids. First thing we noticed was that there were only a few other kids and no kids menu. No drama's, we just split some plates.
The food was very authentic, and although some bread as a starter or condiments would have been appreciated at these prices. But hey, it's classy, easy parking and very friendly staff, that's worth something too.

Every suburb should have a friendly neighbourhood Italian restaurant. St. Ives a Sydney suburb singularly lacking in exciting eateries has one of the best. Having frequented the Old School Trattoria since it opened almost 20 years ago I can say that its unique charm derives from the fact that nothing has changed apart from the Aussie-Italian banter. Whether you go there for a snack, dinner or a special occasion you can count on the same great food, a warm Italian welcome and, only if you're female, a kiss from Franco.

The restaurant has lovely ambience and it is BYO.The service was warm and friendly, even the chef came out to check on how we we were enjoying our meals.
The food is traditional, and plentiful. The eggplant parmigiana & garlic prawns were both lovely and the portions generous. The main servings were generous, so like other reviews if having entree and main probably won't be able to fit in desert. We had a very enjoyable evening and would go back.
