While visiting Sutherland we decided to visit SALT. Being from Gauteng we are not used to this extreme cold, but what an experience. We arrived outside the official tour times but were allowed to do the tour on our own which we really enjoyed. To experience such clean crisp air was fantastic. As we were walking up to where the telescopes were situated we were offered a lift by one of the SALT vehicles which we were very thankful for as the temperature outside has dropped to -20 because of the windchill factor. Experiencing the vastness of the area, the quiet the unpolluted air was kind of magical. I would advise people who visit the area to make the trip and have the experience.
