This really is a great hostel! There is a culture that exists at this particular hostel that is hard to explain. It certainly ticks all the boxes of cleanliness, friendly staff, great event co-ordination, great location. safe and fun; but it also has a feeling that cant been articulated. Kim and her staff have managed to create a vibe that is exciting to be apart of. It is a great place to stay and i hope i find time to get there again. Good luck.

Room Tip: This is a fun hostel, if you're in a shared room - expect it to feel that way.

Clean rooms, sweet kitchen, good staff and simply a relaxed place to spend your time at.
This backpackers has the most uncomplicated atmosphere you can think of.
We booked in very spontaneously.
So to speak Walk-ins are welcome as well.
I can really recommend this lovely place.

33 South was immediately welcoming to us: in fact, all the staff we encountered on our 5 night stay were very helpful and friendly. The dorms were very clean ( the cleaners even made your bed for you every day!) with very comfortable beds and warm blankets (needed in cold Cape Town). The bathroom was very clean although I did find it odd that there were two toilets with nothing but a glass pane separating them! Weird. But there were two other bathrooms under renovation whilst we were there so no doubt once they're finished 33 South will be even better! Location seems far out but actually it's not too bad, only 10mins from the centre and 6 rand in a minibus. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend them!

Room Tip: Jouge was a very nice dorm room.

Going to Cape Town was my first solo trip (as in I was traveling alone) and I came across 33 South on Couch Surfers. I was a bit unsure of what to expect but was impressed above and beyond! The staff is so welcoming and friendly, they will show you around the neighborhood (observatory or OBZ) and are enjoyable people to hang out with (especially Pinty and Bones!)

Incredibly clean, hot showers, comfortable beds. I stayed in one of the dorm rooms and it was great. You can put a small deposit down and get a locker for the dorm rooms. They also help arrange any of the tourist attractions, such as the trip to simonstown (with the penguins) and cape of good hope. They're also helpful as to how to get to town, how to get to places, how much things should cost etc etc

It's definitely a place for a younger crew (most people there were in their 20's as was most of the staff) and OBZ as an area has a younger scene to it. While you aren't in Cape Town proper the train station is a 2 minute walk away or a mini bus is 5 minutes away and it only costs about $1USD to get into town. I loved staying here and feel so much more comfortable traveling alone now that I know that there are places like 33 South out there!

I had such a great time here. The staff were so welcoming and fun to hang out with, and they knew a lot about tours and attractions to go visit. We were one street from the buzzing nightlife of Obs and the train station that took as to the beaches, town, shopping mall, penguins, and more. The staff cooked great dinners for us and a breakfast of fresh muffins and toast was included. The cute Gypsey bar is the hang out spot to have a few drinks before you hit the bars and restaurants. Clean, warm showers, lockers, comfy beds and even a hammock...what more could you ask for!!

I stayed at 33 South for 5 nights at the beginning of September.

First time using a backpacking hostel and the guys couldn't have been more helpful. Jessica spent over an hour organising trips for me during my stay. Arnold and Pinty were brilliant hosts, making sure everyone was happy and went out of their way to make my stay a great one. They are more than willing to organise taxis for you and at a reasonable price.

My room, the Bo Kaap, was very clean and spacious, with a great ensuite shower, etc. Comfy bed and lovely sheets.

Breakfast included in the price, which was usually freshly made muffins and toast - would have been nice to have had some fruit but there is a Spa just over the road in which you can buy just about anything you need. The little boxes in the pantry on which you write your name in chalk and can keep all your provisions is a great idea.

Thank you guys for a great stay.
