I liked the layout of the course and the lush fairways and greens. The service in the clubhouse is also good

This was the last course we played having been along the garden route in South Africa we played some great courses, this is an easy walk and very much an old golf club. Not so much as a country club, there's train tracks at the side of the course. We enjoyed the course but its not so much of a challenge as some we played, lots of members on the course, not one I'd go back to but very conveniently located

Played Royal Cape in the morning and then drove to airport for early evening flight back to UK. Course in good condition and is easy walking (so no buggy required) - made very welcome in the pro shop. Good clubhouse facilities.

Royal Cape is an old golf club that has a "golf club" feel as opposed to a "golf country club" feel. It was quite expensive for us (1,300 Rands for 2 players with a buggy on a Monday afternoon) compared to 4 other courses we had played in South Africa over our holiday and for an overall experience not as good as Pearl Valley or Pinnacle Point. I think the main reason for saying this is that those courses have had quality architects plan them recently (e.g. jack Nicklaus etc) and so had more interesting holes than the Royal \Cape had.

Having said that, Royal Cape is very well maintained, the greens are all even paced and the greatest challenge\ protection for the course is again the wind directon\ force and the trees that line many of the fairways and greens.
it is a flat course with some shade from the trees in places so a lot of people were walking the course with pull trollies and I can see why. As long as the weather is not 30 degrees plus a very good option.
On our buggy it did not have a cooler box and - again - just shows a slight difference between a "golf club" and a "golf and country club". Not overly important in itself, but little things. And no GPS onthe Buggies and the Pro Shop had run out of Course guides so a little tougher for a visitor.

The halfway house and after round service is excellent - and quite relaxed for such an old and possibly "traditional" club which is to it's credit.
Generally the prices for drinks, food and pro shop stuff seeemd to be cheaper than elsewhere which was a pleasant surprise.
The locker rooms had a space where vistors could lock up valuables; showers and towels and was all in all very pleasant.
The course off the White tees (yellow is the longest) was 3,008 metres front 9 and back 9 (so some good course design there!) and a par 36, 36 = 72. 4 Par 3's, 10 Par 4's and 4 par 5's.
When you play they do use the 1st Tee and 10th tee to start so check when you get there.
we played on our last afternoon at 12:50pm before our flight at 10:00pm and - as it is only 15 minutes to the cape Town International airport it was perfect for that last afternoon!
If we went back to Cape Town though we would probably not be rushing back to Royal Cape simply because within another 30 minutes we feel there are more interesting\ scenic\ peaceful courses but that is a "style" of course thing and as some people like Links; some Parklands and some American target golf then it is all opinion.
I would class this as a very good suburbs parkland course.
