“New rooms great value”
Reviewed August 3, 2012

This hotel has recently been extended with about ten new rooms in a wing at the rear. I can only think that the dissatisfied reviewer stayed in one of the older rooms as the new ones are spacious, very well decorated and air-conditioned. I could not find fault. I stayed two nights on the 75 euro half board which for single occupancy in this area in July I reckon is good value. Breakfast is a bit basic as we've come to expect a buffet everywhere now but it was good fresh bread, croissant, pain au chocolat and proper orange juice. Other reviewers have criticised the reaturant and OK it is a ten minute walk down the road, but what better way to digest a good meal than a gentle stroll back to the room. It is on the road, but set back and the road is a 50 kph limit so the lorries are hardly thundering past. The tables at the back overlook green space and you would not know that you were so close to the traffic. The food is superb given that being on the demi pension rate I was limited to the mid-price menu including both cheese and dessert. Wine was cheap by the carafe and more than drinkable. Spirits and so on were also well priced. I went last year before the new rooms were built and was pleased, but now it would certainly be my future base when I go back to the area. I have paid a lot more money for inferior food and lodging in this area of France and will certainly return.

Room Tip: Ask for one of the new rooms

The hotel is part of Logis group and is clean and tidy but the restaurant is 300m away along a busy road. The rooms in the hotel are adequate although nothing special. The hotel bar is in fact the village bar, basic with unclean plastic tables and chairs on the road side terrace. There are no other public spaces. Breakfast is very basic.
The restaurant is run by the daughter and food is good and prices fair but it is a 300m walk along the main road where large lorries are roaring by. If you have a family you would need to drive the short distance,
There are better places to stay!!

We have eaten at the restaurant here twice and the food has been excellent on both occasions. We chose the 11 euro 4 course set menu on the first occasion and enjoyed a goats cheese salad to start followed by a superb slow cooked rabbit casserole, infused with tarragon. ( although we were able to choose from 4 options on this menu ) deserts were delicious and we were then given a plate of local cheeses. We ordered a carafe of the local red which was superb and we ended up paying less than if we had eaten at a motorway cafe in England. On the second occasion I chose the 15 euro menu and my husband went a la carte. The seafood was superb ( through choosing the 15 Euro menu I was able to choose from a greater variety of dishes ) and my husband's steak was delicious. We stopped overnight here once also enroute to the South of France and the rooms were clean and comfortable. We were with our elderly dog who was well received.
This is a good value, well run traditional French establishment, without pomp and circumstance; perfect after a days travelling or a pits top lunch when you cannot bring yourself to endure the torture of a motorway cafe.

The hotel is in Corbeny and we stayed there for the Laon Historic car rally. The hotel is OK with newly refurbished rooms and reasonable rates. Breakfast food was good and fresh but served on chipped plates or saucers when they ran out.
If you do not want to drive to eat then yiou have to use their nearby restaurant. We ate there on 3 nights. The food is not cheap, mains c.18 euros although the set menus are better value. Two nights the service was OK the third was bad. The vegetables were a disgrace, so overcooked they went to mush. When commented on the waitress shrugged and told us it was cauliflower (you would never have known).
The hotel is OK but plan to drive for your evening meal.
