This 'hotel' reminded us of an African safari lodge, although a spacious Swiss chalet could describe it as well. Everything was positive: the warm welcome (a hot towel to wipe your face the moment you step out of the car was great as we felt really cold); the spacious room with view on the valley and excellent amenities; the stove in the room which can be filled with more wood which is lying ready; the hot water bottles; the dining room with a fire in the middle where the guests can warm themselves and get to know each other; the good food (although only buffet was available); the welcome tea or coffee; the friendly staff; the surroundings. We asked for a room with view on the valley but the view was a bit hampered by the trees in front. However, there was still enough to see and I think all rooms have a great view.

This hotel was gorgeous

The hotel and grounds were well maintained and just look amazing as you approach.

The rooms are spacious and very relaxing.

Unfortunately when we were there they were experiencing quite a severe power shortage (that lasted a few days apparently) the staff did everything in their power to make the stay as comfortable as they possibly could considering the predicament.
When we went to be there were hot water bottles in our bed, the fires were stoked, there were candles and matches ... the staff tried to rectify the situation as much as they could, they only thing they couldn't rectify was the hot water.

I thought it made the stay more quaint and memorable.

The food here was the best for the whole trip.

We went for a walk down to the village which was excellent

This hotel has a rustic look. Most of the rooms (I suppose) face the beautiful valley.

The best thing was the way we were received by the staff, a royal treatment. We were given warm napkins and that was it...I fell in love with this hotel. The staff is co-operative. I mean the staff took a special care to make us understand how to keep the old fashioned stove burning. A five star service.

The food is excellent too.

The phobjika valley itself is serene so is the hotel

Excellent comfortable place in the Phobjika valley. Location is just above the valley where the black necked cranes come in winter from Tibet. The main dining and bar area is great - everyone sits around a warm stove and makes for a great atmosphere to share stories with other guides and travelers. The service was very nice too - seemed to be a family run operation and the staff were very pleasant to deal with. The rooms were large and comfortable and hot water was available at all times.

Dewachen: the very mention of the name and it evokes charm, warm hospitality, excellent service and indelible memories of this beautiful hotel. The loveliest hotel during my Bhutan visit. So sad to leave this cozy hotel with an old fashioned stove to warm the room in the night when the temperature is below freezing point outside, hear the nostalgic crackling sound of wood being burnt, hot water bottle provided just before bedtime, comfortable bed, tastefully furnished sitting area and a hot shower to end the day! Breakfast and dinner is deliciously prepared and I want to stay longer but my itinerary does not allow me.

There is no internet nor TV in the room but I don't miss it as I want to savor the rustic and quiet atmosphere of this beautiful hotel. I will return on my next trip to Bhutan and this time for a longer stay in Dewachen.

Room Tip: If you can, stay longer to enjoy the beautiful hotel and its atmosphere.

Beautiful hotel and rooms with a rustic peaceful charm. We spent a night here to get a chance to observe the elegant black-necked cranes found in the area in December. It was pretty cold at night when the wood finished burning in the iron stove found in the room, but the friendly female staff were always prompt in helping us heat up the rooms and also provided us with hot water bottles and plenty of blankets to snuggle in bed. I believe it will be an exceptionally serene experience to spend a few quiet nights in this resort in any other season than winter.

The Dewachen is rustic: no Internet, and the heating is primarily from a wood stove in your room, or in the restaurant. But the staff is very friendly and helpful, and the restaurant buffet was tasty. Phobjikha valley is definitely worth the visit - it's beautiful, and feels timeless - and this is your best option in the area (unless you're up for the prices at the Aman resort, which seemed pointless to us). We loved our two-night stay.

Room Tip: The corner rooms are particularly spacious.
