Loved the cold beer, local wines, fantastic meals and accommodation. Well done to the new managers, Brett and Michelle. Country pub with a country accommodation, food and atmosphere. Fantastic that the Rovers bus stops out the front for the concerts in the hunter valley.

Stayed March 2014, traveled on business

Where do I start! Wow, have never been to a worse establishment. Place was dirty and disgusting. No greetings from the staff as you walk in, more of a stare to wonder why you set foot in the place if your not a "local". Many people were obviously very intoxicated, staff didn't seem to care in the slightest (nice RSA... :/ ) Food was dry and looked like it had all been frozen then heated up in the microwave before being served out on plates.

Seriously wouldn't bother, terrible experience and will not be returning!!!

Room Tip: Don't choose any! If like the hotel then you will be disappointed!

I can't comment on this place for its accomodation but its restaurant is wonderful. MEALS JUST LIKE YOUR MUM WOULD MAKE. The LAmb is the best I have ever tasted (sorry Mum). I have been back three more times and enjoyed each meal. The staff are very friendly and welcoming. This place is so much closer to us now since the Hunter expressway has opened, it takes half an hour to get there. It is a lovely country athmosphere and is child friendly. I will definately be back again. :) :) :) :) :) <----- five smiley faces.

Room Tip: yummy food

We had booked 2 rooms for 2 couples for 2 nights.. What we were given were not up to standard...here is a list! Only one mug for a coffee in each room with a couple in each. No glasses for water. One small light in room and no reading lights. One TV had no antenna and the other had to have the cable reconnected to TV [one of the party had the skills to do that!] One Doona had cream stains [eg like a hand cream] and the bed dipped in centre once on it! Not really clean enough. After speaking to staff the immediate response was "do you want your money back?". Actually we asked if there were other rooms available or to find us other accommodation. Did not appear to know how to look up a phone directory but eventually on staff member phoned another motel from memory. However that place could not give the 2 nights accommodation needed nor could the next call provide accommodation. However another room was shown and it was accepted. As it was late Friday afternoon it wasn't an option to just take pot luck---this had been booked a few months previously.

The TV sets were placed on a chair and the kettle on the frig, not sure if that would be accepted by "workplace and safety".

At $100 it was not good enough. We did go to dinner at the pub but a good meal was ruined by grey instant potato! Not something a self respecting cook would present.

A few days later stayed at a motel in Katoomba another top tourist destination and what a difference. For $104 there was every convenience provided, crisp whit sheets etc and so clean and cared for. Lochinvar was a sad place but then as there were no other guests that night I suggest that says it all! Rooms with care etc could be made over as they are a regular size etc. The bathroom has had a little work but the hand basins need to go asap.

Room Tip: There was no road noise as the rooms are back off the street enough but sadly unless there is a lot...

Lochinvar Hotel Motel, Lochinvar (not Branxton)
http://www.huntervalleyhotels.com.au/lower_hunter/lochinvar/lochinvar_hotel.html
Do not be fooled by this website.

A booking was made several months in advance for 8 family members travelling from different locations, staying between 1 to 2 nights. We were quoted $40 per person per night in non smoking rooms. Upon arrival we were charged more per head $50. Payment was at the hotel and the accommodation section was a small distance from the Hotel, this part sounded good, but this is where it ends, it was evident that this had once been a Motel in its own right in years gone bye, now just used as accommodation mostly for mine workers. It looked run down, no pool, no landscape gardens or gardens at all, car parking higgle piggly.

For our money we got put in rooms reeking of smoke, dirty carpet and some had not been very well cleaned, dusty, dirty window, spider webs and broken coffee/tea facilities which were less than hygienic. TV reception almost non existing, wires hanging of small inside antennas, your outside under cover veranda chair was covered in bird faeces and dust.

On the plus side the linen was clean, the showers hot with good water pressure.

The Lochinvar Hotel's dinning area served beautiful meals with a large selection at reasonable prices. The bar area seemed friendly, the beers cold and counter meals where just as good. If your hungry do stop for a bit to eat, but DO NOT STAY the night, as you do not get value for money. Just because it in the Hunter Valley wine area, should not mean you have to pay more for less.

The little shop across the road, was a real gem. It was the fish n chip come local post office. The food beautiful, the hamburger are monsters, fish n chips plentiful.

If you want more of a selection and heading south, a 17km trip to Cessnock, has many cafe's that open early for breakfast.

Room Tip: Do not believe what you see on a website, these photo's can be many years old or photoshop to lo...
