“Delicious food in a great location”
Reviewed April 8, 2013

I just finished a ski-trip across the Hardangervidda plateau and we ended up at Haukeliseter Fjellstue. The hut was fully booked, but as a DNT (Norwegian Tourist Association) hut they can't say no to guests so we got a mattress in a tv lounge and slept well there. What should be brought forward is the fantastic food we got for dinner and breakfast. Local food, beautifully prepared and it tasted delicious! The food is more expensive than the stay (but the stay is rather cheap), and well worth the trip itself.

Room Tip: Get in early so you get a room and not just a mattress on the floor - although it's allright sle...

My girlfriend stayed here in May 2012 while visiting Odda and hiking Trolltunga. This place was perfect for us - very romantic in our opinion, removed from any big city with great views. One morning we woke up for the sunrise and watched an arctic fox scamper around outside. Great!

Nice stay in a room at this mountain lodge, spent one night and the only thing to complain about is the weather. Excellent dinner.

What a fantastic place!!! We traveled all the way from Australia and wanted to see snow. We were told that this was the place to stay. And we are so glad we did. Although we arrived in the low season, the snow was fantastic! We were the only guests there for one of the nights. We were given the best room overlooking the lake. We had the 3 course meal and got to taste traditional foods from the region.
The room was clean, warm and very cosy. The facilities were great. We could even access wifi from our room. We hired skis and had a go at that too.
The service all round was wonderful!!
Highly recommend. Oh and it is easy to get to. We took the bus from Stavanager and it was the most beautiful journey.

Booked our night well in advance with no problems. My birthday treat! My son and I rode our motorbikes from Oslo and planned the route so we could take in the fantastic scenery. We stopped here 2 years ago and this time planned to arrive on a Saturday when the "Stamp" is heated and the Barstu steamy. A hot tub and sauna overlooking the most beautiful lake is certainly the way to relax after a long ride. Bring you own booze though.

The food in the evening was amongst the best I have eaten (I collect Michelin stars for a hobby) and excellent value.

The room was basic but more than adequate, the breakfast was treat... homemade bread, butter and cheese... seriously great.

I will certainly be back and would recommend this little bit a paradise to everyone.

Stay at this hotel if you'd like to experience the mountainous regions of southern Norway. This boutique hotel reflects the Norwegian decor, foods and experience. It's much better than a typical hotel.

Haukeliseter is located directly off of E134, which makes it easy to get to. We stayed in one of the suites, which was large for European standards. While staying at this hotel you are within minutes of many
good long and short hikes around the lake.

You'll find many charming characteristics at Haukeliseter in the rooms and the lodge. The clean rooms feel like cabins with unfinished
wood furniture and the lodge is a cozy place to relax and view the mountains from the large windows. You can find snow here during the summer, but don't worry, it's not cold! Also, don't forget to look up as you leave the lodge. You'll see the goat who grazes on the grass which covers the roof of the lodge.

If you're hungry, consider making reservations at the restaurant instead of the cafe. We had a 3 course meal that was absolutely fabulous! They served lamb that night and did provide a fish dish for our non-meat eating friend. The breakfast buffet was just as good as dinner with locally made goat cheeses and meats. Plus, you can make your own waffles - a Norwegian treat!

The wilderness spa activities were not open during the weekdays. But, you could rent kayakes. Plus, you can take rides on the seaplane, which lands on the lake directly in front of the hotel. There are several table next to the lake where you can sit and relax. We stayed at this hotel for one night as we were traveling through Norway. So, I'm not sure if there are many day trips you can take from this hotel.

Veldig koselig!
