“Conference stay”
Reviewed January 9, 2012

Were here only during one day, and great staff, great facilities, OUTSTANDING lunch, and lots of space to park.

One of the better hotels i've seen, despite the fact that it's an old one.

Recommendable!

This is a fine hotel with good conference facilities. Had a conference here, and was very satisfied. The hotel is situated approx 20 km north of Oslo, and there is a good bus connection both from Oslo and from Gardermoen airport. Rooms are functional and beds are good. The food was absolutely great, and the staff very friendly. Check-in/ check-out was swift and friendly, and at the conference center everything went smooth. Nice touch with the books all over the hotel, and also with the books in the room - books that you could read for free. And if you didn't get to finish reading it, you could buy one in the reception upon departure. One minor thing - it would be nice with a gym in the hotel. I will definitely recommend this hotel for conferences, courses etc.

Been there couple of times. But it is not a hotel i want to stay more than one night at the time.
In and out hotel. It is to expensive ant I got a room with a balcony, but it was at the backside and over some garbage containers, and the smell...... you know.
My first trip back in 2007, i had a very nice smoking room, but beacuse og the Choice philosophy noe one is smoking any more.

The hotel is an ok conference hotel. It is located not to long from Gardermoen airport and easy to access by car og bus.

The hotel is clean, has friendly staff, but the best part is the restaurant. It may not look like much at first (looks average), but the food was great.

Also it offers conference options, and the hall there was ok. Spacious enough for people, and friendly staff, but the projectors where not of good enough quality in my opinion.

The beds are good, but you will hear sounds from neighbourrooms and from the hallway.

All in all a very good place for a conference, but this is not the place for tourists.

Room Tip: Ask for room away from elevator

We have been using the hotel several times for conferences. We have been about 200 guests there from the same company and everything has worked as planned.
There is absolutely no reason not to like this hotel. Friendly staff. Food is excellent.
Enjoy your stay here.
When you take the bus from Airport Gardermoen, the hotell will be the first stop and it is the last stop from the buses coming from Oslo.

The hotel is located "in the middle of nowhere" along the main road out of Oslo towards the north. It is serviced by regular buses from downtown Oslo and Gardermoen airport.

First impressions were positive. A friendly member of staff was greeting new guests, showing them the way to meeting rooms or the reception as needed. There seemed to be a problem with my reservation (they did not seem to be able to locate it), but it was sorted out within a few minutes.

I was given a relatively large room (341), but some people might feel uncomfortable with the tapering roof and the single, smallish window. No noise from the road was audible when the window was closed. The style of the communal areas and the room itself dates from the late 1990, in a reasonably well state of maintenance. It was clean enough everywhere I looked.

The bathroom, however, is quite outdated. The walls and floor is covered in oh-so-1970s brownish marble. There was no heating and insufficient ventilation, making the bathroom seem cold and smelly - I did not see any actual mold, though. Soap whas provided in dispensers.

The bed was OK enough, even if the sheets were somewhat loose (I accidently ripped them off the mattress when taking off the bed cover).

The restaurant was slightly better than the average Norwegian hotel, but not very much - too few items seemed home-made.

All staff were friendly and helpful.

Wireless internet access is free and fast, there was also two computers available in the reception.

All in all, an OK hotel if the location suits you. I would not recommend it for Oslo visitors, as the distance to downtown Oslo is well above what most people would prefer.

Ten nights, ten hotels across Scandinavia. The worst among them? Hands down: the Quality Hotel Olavsgaard. I was suckered by the lack of reviews on TripAdvisor and the association with a legitimate American chain.

But before I go into details, let me first let me put my review in context of my own background: I'm well-traveled, and I tend to review hotels based on North American standards (because, as we know, "3 stars" in Europe would often be a low "2 star" in North America or Australia/New Zealand). I just finished a rapid fire trip across Scandinavia and the Baltic at the aforementioned variety of hotels, so this review is also taken in context of other similar options in the region.

I picked the Quality Hotel Olavsgaard because I planned a day involving a 12 hour drive from Bergen (via Kristiansand) and, with a flight the next morning, wanted a hotel near the airport (which is out of town). The Quality Inn is about halfway between the city and airport, and given how late I planned on arriving, I wasn't sure if I'd be able to make it.

Located right off the freeway, there is free parking --a plus. The service was polite, that was a plus --but it did not make up for a lack of competency. And none of this matters if the room is completely, utterly unacceptable --so let's cut to the chase:

The room had noise from outside (freeway) and inside (unruly guests who the management didn't feel like calming down). Worst: the bathroom had clear and obvious mold issues. The whole room smelled from it. There was hair on the floor. The furniture was all worn, the entire room's colors completely yellowed and depressing, and there simply wasn't enough lighting to do anything other than magnify the issues. It gets worse: there was no A/C. This hotel advertises that it has some, but it doesn't --at least they're not willing to use it (I have a better example, but we'll save it for below): with the moldy air, you want airflow --so you open the window. Freeway noise. Then the hallway noise from unruly, and frankly rather sketchy, guests. This was past 10pm and people were loitering everywhere.

We voiced our concerns and asked for a different room. The peppy but highly inexperienced woman at the front desk reported that "we do have A/C!" despite the heat proving the opposite. She showed me a bizarre room on the third floor that was like an attic space (complete with 45 degree ceiling slopes) --for some reason the bath had been renovated in this one, and had lighter colors and did not smell of mold. However, the heat was worse and --to top it off-- there was a fan placed in this room... which the hotel employee cheerfully pointed to as "see? A/C!".

I don't know what to make of this place. Another review said they were renovating back in 2007, but I didn't see any concrete results other than one bath in an otherwise atrocious room. I took a loss on this and stayed at a better hotel near the airport --where there turned out to be plenty of reasonable options (and it wasn't even that far away... my attempt to save time and get more sleep actually cost me a lot of time and money).

What more needs to be said?

Avoid, avoid, avoid.
