“Winter at the Polar Zoo”
Reviewed December 14, 2012 via mobile

Visited the Polar Zoo yesterday on 14 Dec 2012. It was freezing cold but a nice cosy fireplace plus the zoo provides proper warm clothing that shielded us totally from the cold and the wind, great and friendly staff. The visit was beautiful in winter and the animals are active and beautiful. The arctic foxes and wolves are very friendly and we spent a leisurely and idyllic time with them for a large part of the visit. Will definitely recommend a visit in winter. Will drop by in summer for a visit if I am in the vicinity of Norway.

“Great day with the animals”
Reviewed August 10, 2012

The Polar Zoo in Bardu, almost an hour's drive north of Narvik, is a great attraction to visit. Not overcrowded on this Friday afternoon in August, the place was quietly humming along at a leisurely pace, giving us ample time with each animal type on the premises.

The highlight was participating in Fox Camp, where one gets in the enclosure with three smart and charming polar foxes, Blanch, Hanki & Goupil. You get to feed them, pet them a little and they do a trick where they climb up on your back while you crouch down (all facilitated by little dog treats supplied by the keeper).

Other folks would probably have gone for the more spectacular Wolf Camp where one gets up close and personal with the wolves in the park. On this day Wolf Camp was canceled, but we wanted the foxes, anyway, so no worries. Best to call ahead, though, to make sure the Camp you want is actually on the day you're visiting.

We also had satisfying accounts with the lynx (which both hissed and purred at my companion) and with the twin bears Salt (an albino brown bear) and Pepper. The only attraction missing was the recently deceased musk ox, but otherwise there are reindeer, moose, red dear, and a bunch of domestic animals in the petting zoo areas, including a terribly cute moose calf.

Another highlight was a close encounter with the otherwise elusive wolverine, and a second rendezvous with the lynxes at feeding time. Well worth a few hours, spent strolling along the paths between the large enclosures the animals are kept in.

“nice zoo, but 100$ for a family ticket way too much”
Reviewed August 3, 2012 via mobile

The polar zoo is a nice place to go if you dont mind to spend 100$ as an entrance fee for your family. The price is by far too much and I would not go there any more after visiting it. They have big cages for the animals which is good, but you really have to search for them and this is not so easy.
Nice pick-nick area inside the zoo and also a playground for kids.

Thank fjeril
