“Good food in nice surroundings”
Reviewed April 15, 2014

Recently reopened under new ownership, it provided excellent food in updated surroundings. The wine was excellent and different beers were good to see. We will be returning and hope this is a successful venture for the new owners

“Hidden gem - thankyou for saving the day at such short notice!”
Reviewed April 13, 2014

After being let down by a local carvery restaurant with, our party of 11 celebrating a ruby wedding anniversary, we rang the Dark Horse and were welcomed with open arms! Although they were fully booked, we enjoyed a drink in the stable bar and were seated as quickly as possible. The owners Cathy and Paul were more than helpful and accomodating, which followed with fantastic food and service which suited all of the various ages in our party (from 11-much older!) We were made to feel very welcome, and thorughly enjoyed our afternoon of food, drink and celebration! Would highly recommend to anyone that is thinking of visiting and enjoying a fantastic meal. A HUGE thank you to you all! We will definitely return and recommend to all our friends and family!

“Lovely warm welcome and such a surprising place”
Reviewed April 11, 2014

This was our first visit to the Dark Horse as it has not been open for a while we had decided to give it a try for my Birthday. We has a lovely welcome from the new owners Cathy and Paul. We had Steak and I had home made cheesecake to die for.

Don't be put off by other reviews The Dark Horse is just that.

Wishing Cathy and Paul every success. We will be going back.

“IT WILL GET BETTER?”
Reviewed April 2, 2014

Got to give them the benefit of the doubt as they haven't been open long and I guess it takes time to get all your "ducks in a row". Visited the Dark Horse on Mothers day, first time since it had re-opened, and was pretty disappointed, two of us had the Beef, and was that tough!! neither of us could cut it let alone eat it, when the waitress asked if everything was OK I told her the Beef was really tough, she replied, oh! and that was that. My partner had the Lamb, which she said was OK but the vegetables were either overdone or under done.
All that said they seem like nice people and I hope they sort it out.
Guess their planning to do something with the ambience/decor as well, it a bit like an echoey village hall!
