“Made our wedding a day to remember”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 25, 2013

We chose the Stein Inn (our local pub) as the venue for our wedding reception and what a day to remember. Teresa and Angus closed the Inn to the public for the day (in August during their busy season) to provide our guests with a beautiful three course meal meal. We had drinks on arrival and a beautiful setting for our photographs. It was a wet day so most of these were taken inside the Inn. In the evening we were entertained by our band and enjoyed a beautiful buffet, The drinks were flowing and the floor was busy with dancing. Our guests traveled from London, Ayr and locally on Skye and some said it was one of the best they had been to. It was a a very special day. The staff were great, even joining in. Since our wedding, Stein has had a couple more and we can highly recommend them. Thanks again for the best day ever.

We didn't know what to expect at this place for dinner and drinks given it's the only place open for meals and drinks at this time of year but thought it was a fantastic experience!

Location-wise it's stunning. Fantastic views of the bay and peninsula. There is a romantic cosy feeling about this place.

Meals-wise, the black pudding is highly recommended and Douglas, the elderly barman recommended several great whiskies during the course of the night and then later both him and another local entertained the both of us with local history and anecdotes. We can't wait to come back again!

Visited for lunch with my wife and young son.
Fantastic location right on the edge of a sea loch.
Food was good and there's a nice atmosphere about the place.
On a nice sunny day don't think there would be any where better to sit outside and enjoy a drink on Skye.
It's open all year so is a good place to visit during the low season when most places seem to be closed.

Set in a lovely location on the shores of Loch Bay on the Waternish peninsular, although quite a long drive from the A850 main road. No staff around when we arrived in the afternoon but eventually located and shown to our room. Stayed for three nights in the Loch Bay room, a large, pleasant room looking out over the loch, with two armchairs and table, good shower; no TV or mobile signal which was quite welcome. Heating appeared to be intermittent and we had to get Angus to reset the time clock before we could warm the room in the evening. Parking in the two side car parks or in front of the Inn. Breakfasts were excellent, with a very good choice of fruit juices, fresh fruit, cereals, cooked breakfasts, porridge etc., served by lovely staff. We had dinner in the restaurant area of the inn each evening; meals were very good with excellent beer battered haddock and pork loin to be recommended, excellent selection of local cheeses, good wine, served at our table (just ask!) and cask ale (not the variety expected though). There is a small lounge area adjacent to the dining room but this seemed to be used by everyone, not just residents. The bar area was very busy every evening with most people eating in what appeared to be a lively atmosphere. Did not see as much of the hosts, Angus and Teresa as we would have expected in an Inn, but staff generally were very pleasant and helpful. On our last morning we had breakfast specially served at 08:00 since we were heading for the ferry at Armadale and this was no trouble to arrange. I am not sure why this Inn is receiving so many poor reviews, maybe it is the overly high expectations of people for what is a country Inn. We would be happy to stay here again.

We had a meal here one cold late October evening. The food was good standard pub food. Staff were friendly, even the dog was welcome. The log fire was lovely. Plenty of drinks to choose from. There was even a pool table round the back which kept the 10 year old happy!

We watched the sunset over the loch and had a very pleasant visit.

We had our honeymoon in Skye and this was our local pub for the week. So friendly and welcoming on a wet and windy day! We had the scampi and chips, really tasty with lovely salad on the side. We sat outside on one visit and watched sharks in the bay, what a great way to spend an afternoon. A roaring fire in the evening was a real treat too.

This was the first time we actually overnighted at the Stein Inn, (for two nights) although we have eaten there several times in previous years. The location is quite wonderful and we were rewarded by some spectacular sunsets - the view from our room across the water was very special. Room quality seemed fine, perhaps slightly chilly but I presume once temperatures drop the heating will come on. Bed was comfortable and we slept well.

Food and service were a mixed bag - the breakfasts were spectacular and quite delicious (try the porridge here, it is local and wonderful) and were looked after by a prompt and very kind and friendly lady who paid attention to service and detail. Evening meals, which we had found so consistently great before, seemed to have lost a bit of their quality, although the haddock and chips are probably still the best we have ever tasted. Our young waitress looked after us impeccably and the other lady at the bar and in the restaurant was friendly and efficient.

The tables immediately close to the bar are the place to sit (that's a definite recommendation) - by comparison the dining "extension" heading towards the toilets rather lacks warmth and attractiveness.

We experienced the older barman as unnecessarily grumpy and ill-mannered - he may be accepted or even loved by the locals but I suspect he's a liability in front of tourists if the Inn is committed to keeping up its good reputation.

We enjoyed ourselves at the Stein Inn and we would look to stay there again next time, but we'd probably want to verify that all is still well via tripadvisor first.

Room Tip: Make sure you get a room with a view over the water!
