Surrounded by lush valleys, trees and flowers, Patratu dam in the Pithouria-Patratu Valley is awe-inspiring. Nature at its pristine best without any pollution, or contamination or hordes of people gave us an opportunity to unwind. Patrutu dam can be reached by travelling about 40 km from Ranchi or 50 km from Hazaribag or 35 km from Ramgarh and 6 km from Patratu town. The dam is located about 408 m above sea level. The road that takes us to the large reservoir winds through ghat sections and hair pin bends. We could see rivulets flowing down from the mountains and draining into the reservoir. We went over the dam road and watched the sluice gates partially open. The boating in the reservoir with pristine water around, and lush greenery in the banks was a sight to behold. There were no toilets, or refreshment stalls nearby. One has to travel to the Patratu town where one can get something to eat. However, as we carried enough food and water, we did not face any problem. The villagers asked us to reach Ranchi or Hazaribag before sunset as the area has wild life around. We also saw the Patratu thermal power station in full flow with its roaring noise nearby. We spent the complete day here.
