“What a great place”
Reviewed August 19, 2013

The owners of Norton House made us feel so welcome and relaxed.. Wonderful clean fresh bedroom and bathroom with many extras. Comfortable quality mattress I liked the fact that they put wine glasses and a bottle opener in the room thus letting you know that you was welcome to take a drink into the room. [Scared of spilling the red wine though on the beautiful furnishings] Breakfast was cooked to perfection and just for you. The full English looked great but I had the alternative and really enjoyed it. When breakfast was ending they both came out to chat to us all and make sure our food was to our liking. Everyone sat at one big dining table which made it feel friendly Everyone chatted to each other and shared what they had done the previous day. The area is beautiful with lots of things to see and do. You can even borrow walking maps off them. Will go again. Definitely.

Hi Pauline, its good to know you enjoyed your stay and even better to know you had a great time in the Wye valley, we are fortunate to live in such a great area and enjoy being able to help guests find some great walks and interesting places to see while in the area, until the next time.

Rarely in this day and age do you stay somewhere where you are made to feel like one of the family rather than a guest. Jayne and Bill are the perfect hosts, nothing is too much trouble and the place is comfort itself.
Norton House is a 'must stay' place if you are in the area, from the welcome tea and cakes to the chocolates and biscuits in the room it is just heaven.
The breakfast is a whole days worth of food in itself, cereal, full english, toast and home made preserves all help to fill you up, and they are not shy with the portions either, you must try Bills american pancakes, beautiful..

Cant wait to go back again..

Room Tip: we stayed in the Monmouth room, it has a lovely window seat and the sun beams through in the morning...

Stayed overnight at Norton House on the way to meet friends in Wales. It is an excellent base either for exploring the gorgeous Wye Valley or to meander through the equally attractive Monmouthshire countryside to the south. A warm welcome, tea and superb lemon cake on arrival set the scene for a comfortable night in a well equipped bedroom and an equally good breakfast with eggs, sausages and bacon sourced locally. Norton House is a delight and I intend booking again next time I come over to the Border Country.

What a great find!..last minute decision to have a night away, & also the need to take our Grandaughter with us...The place is lovely, & the owners fantastic..Welcomed with a tray of tea & home made brownies..Room was very nice, beds comfortable, well equipped bathroom, tea & coffee & biscuits & chocolates..nice touch..
Breakfast was a fab..lots of choice, made to order, & nothing was too much trouble..
The owners were very helpful & gave us money saving coupons for the local Butterfly Farm, & also discount for the local pub..
We were very happy with our stay, & will definitely be going back....

We had a wonderful 4 nights at Norton house and as my title says it was really good. We were spoilt for choice for Breakfast and could eat nothing the rest of the day after it. The rooms were well equipped and if anything was short Bill and Jane would always help us out. Bill knew the surrounding areas so well that we had something to do everyday. The afternoon tea cakes were a treat to die for.Overall ,we would go again and would recommend it to all .

Room Tip: The room Monmouth was very comfortable

Satu, we really enjoyed your company and it was our pleasure helping you and Ki, get to know the area a little. Our chats at breakfast renewed my desire to visit India and Kerala in particular, so we both were able to inject enthusiasm for two different areas. Hope we can meet again in the future.
Take care.

The Cider Loft is a delightful and very well equipped and appointed cottage with a secluded garden and courtyard. On arrival Jane and Bill made us most welcome and were very helpful throughout our stay. The delicious brownies, home made bread, fruit and breakfast ingredients for our first breakfast were very much appreciated. The location, mid way between Ross and Monmouth was perfect for exploring this beautiful area - there is plenty of information / maps etc. both in the cottage and in Norton House itself. We hope to return soon and would unequivocally recommend a stay in The Cider Loft.

What a wonderful, warm welcome, and freshly made chocolate brownies we received from Jayne on our arrival at Norton House, and thank you Bill for sharing with us, your vast knowledge of the Wye Valley.
We have been touring the UK over the past fortnight and have stayed in several hotels and B&Bs but Norton House is the place we will remember most fondly. It just wraps its arms around you and says "Welcome". It oozes old world charm like nowhere else we have stayed and our romantic four poster room was a haven of tranquility after a full day of sight seeing.
The hearty breakfasts set us up well for each day. As well as the delicious full English there were five other choices such as stuffed croissant with scrambled egg and smoked salmon and my favourite, poached haddock with a lightly poached egg. Should we return to the Wye Valley, there would be only one place to stay - with Jayne and Bill at Norton House. Thank you!

Thank you, that is such a compliment after your tour around to decide you enjoyed your time here. I hope that we helped with some suggestions of what to see and do during your stay. I think there is just some much going on in the area it is hard to pack it all in during one stay, so here's to the next visit.
