“A Lovely Homely Hotel”
Reviewed November 20, 2011

Alan & Lisa were there to meet us on our arrival at their charming hotel, the bedroom was very clean & spacious, food was wonderul as was the service, nothing was to much trouble & the staff were polite. Will most definately be returning in the very near future, lots of nice places & areas to visit close by.
A warm welcome from ' Bob the dog ', even he was most loveable.
Thanks for a most enjoyable stay, see you very soon.
A must visit for anyone wanting great food, drink & great company.

My Wife and I are 27 years of age. We spent two nights here (Friday and Saturday) in early November.

The Owners and staff of the hotel are really friendly. The hotel has a great relaxing atmosphere. The food is stunning. It is also located close to Hereford, Monmouth and is just a couple of miles from Ross-On-Wye.

I would advise anybody to stay here for a while (and try the New York Cheesecake... WOW!)

Room Tip: room 2 was where we slept, and we were more than happy

I would like to say our recent stay at The Hostelrie was exceptional.
Alun and Lisa took over this magnificent old building last June (2010) and have begun to make changes to improve the place which they said they were going to do. This looks like a sizeable task and they still have much to do.
The bar area is already very welcoming and had a nice feel about it. They are slowly re-decorating all the bedrooms as well. As with any new venture it all takes time.
We visited breifly last year for dinner whilst staying elsewhere in Goodrich, this year we decided to stay at the Hostelrie.
Both Alun & Lisa are very accomodating indeed with locals, residents and passing trade.
Alun is an exceptional cook and what he does with food will dazzle your taste buds.
Lisa has an exceptional flair for customer care and attention to detail.
There is something for everyone whilst staying here and the surrounding area is beautiful with hundreds of things to do and places to visit.
I cant wait until next years visit to see how its all going.

Room Tip: They are all good, but some are still in the process of redecoration.

The room we stayed in needs a fresh coat of paint, but was clean and we were happy with everything else, It was mentioned that there would be a lot of decorating done this Winter, improvements are ongoing since Alan and Lisa moved in, They seem to make a very good team, Alan is a very good Chef and some of his dishes are excellent and can compete with any other local establishment, The full english breakfast was great to set us up for the day. accomodation prices are very competitive for the area, we can recommend this Hotel, It is situated in an exceptional area of natural beauty and no where is far away, we would not hesitate to re-book a break here

Have just returned from the Hostelrie after a three night b&b stay.
Alun and Lisa took over this grand old building last June (2010) and have begun to make changes to improve the place and whilst this looks a sizeable task, the bar area is already very welcoming and had a nice feel about it. Upstairs however looked ready for a makeover and our room was also ready for some tlc. Outside, the garden also warranted some attention.
Breakfast was good and whilst we didn't eat there in the evening as it was beyond our budget, there was an extensive specials board serving up something to suit every taste using local quality produce.
Overall a pleasant stay with friendly hosts in a very nice part of the country.
