“Beautiful cottages in amazing valleys”
Reviewed September 22, 2011

We stayed for 2 nights when we went to the Wollumbi Music festival, instead of camping. The cottage was very cute and basic but had everything you needed. It was fairly cool in the evenings but there is a great heater/aircon and the dunnas are very warm. If your doing some serious cooking, bring your own knives ;)

Room Tip: Find out who is staying next to you. Ie 3 children under 3 that dont go to sleep till midnight :(

We had a cosey weekend here in August so it was perfect for sitting in front of the fire. The location was beautiful and the cottages were filled with rustic charm. Coming form the city, it really did feel like a little country getaway the way the cottages were fitted out. The Hosts were lovely and very welcoming for us to take a walk up the back of there property to explore. There is a great bush walk up the mountain which is well worth the steep hike for the views. We got a yummy complimentary breakfast hamper with bacon, eggs and tomatos which was great. it doesn't take too long to drive into the heart of the wine district with its great food and wine, but it is far enough away to be peaceful and secluded. Only downfall was some of the furnishings seemed like they needed to be updated ie couch and cushions seemed a bit tired, but everything else had that old world feel wiilst still feeling fresh and clean. Was great to saok in a bath tub too! We will be back

We had just a little bit of trouble finding this lovely place in the dark having travelled up by plane from Melbourne but once we arrived it was just lovely. The cottage was well equipped and the fridge well stocked. W enjoyed a lovely wine tasting, cheese platter, port and chocolates - most of that on the first night! We lit a lovely warm fire, filled up the spacious spa bath and just relaxed. The surrounding area is perfect for sight seeing with so much to do and see. We could have stayed all week and it would still not be long enough. Great weekend away. Thank you Darryl & Phillipa.

A fantastic place for the perfect getaway!!! We stayed in the Timbercutters cottage and LOVED IT!!! We arrived to a wood fire all set to go, port and chocolates and a very generous breakfast hamper (which lasted us for 2 mornings). We drove to Cessnock and Pokolbin where you find bigger wineries, and it only took us 20 mins (approx). I would 100% reccommend Cedar Creek to all my family and friends. We hope to return one day!!!

We stayed for 3 nights in November 2010 as part of our tour of Oz. We stayed in Gardeners cottage which was clean but basic with limited cooking facilities. The bbq was very dirty from previous users so we didn't use it and the owners didn't seem inclined to clean it when we mentioned it. The cottage faced the vineyards and a gravel track ran along the back which made for great walking/jogging. The cottage is well located being on the eastern edge of Hunter Valley and therefore a bit closer to the freeway for Sydney.

Best bit of our stay was a guided vineyard tour we booked with 'Tony told me'. We started at 10am and Tony took us to several fabulous cellar doors for copious amounts of tasting. We stopped for lunch at the fabulous Hunter Valley gardens. To be honest the tour was a bit long and half a day would have been enough!

We would recommend the cottage for a couple on a short break who aren't fussed about fancy mod-cons and who want some piece and quiet. Discounted wine from their cellar door is a bonus too!!

My husband and two young children recently stayed at Cedar Creek Cottages for the weekend. We had such a lovely time. We stayed in Gatekeepers cottage, which has two bedrooms - plenty of room. The accommodation was great with comfy bedrooms, good kitchen, pretty view etc. But what really made it special for us was that you can wander around the farm - Daryl and Phillipa, the owner,s encouraged us to show the kids the cows, feed the horses, paddle in the creek, pat the dogs etc. The boys (who are three and five) were in heaven. They even got to see kangaroos bouncing along the edge of the vineyard. And we grown ups enjoyed the wine too! We were also lucky enough to be in town for the Wollombi markets, which were a treat. Highly recommend this for a country family holiday.

My partner and I have been coming here for the last five years, and bringing the kids with us for the last three of them. This is not the Marriott, and that's precisely why we like it. The cottages are located enough of a distance from one another to feel like you're on the farm by yourselves. They're built from wooden slabs, recycled convict bricks and tin roofed, giving a very authentic country feel unlike a pristine hotel. They are, however, very clean, have excellent facilities for dinner prep, and sit in one of the most beautiful parts of the valley, overlooking vines which produce fabulous wine. And, as repeat customers (we've now been there 9 times) we get a free bottle of the wine made from grapes grown on the farm.
As guests we can wander through the fields, swim in the creek, and treat the place as our own country home. And in the summer we catch yabbies in the dam, the only downside is that apparently they hibernate over the winter, so this time we had a very disappointed three year old who had to be talked into the idea of fishing in the creek instead! Wollombi does get cold in the winter, and you do need to know how to light a fire, or be able to learn how to make one.
If you want an air conditioned room with room service, go to a motel, but if you want a country escape, this is the pick of them
