“Gorgeous, but mostly Delicious”
Reviewed March 8, 2013

I've been to this restaurant as a vacationer 5 times now and each time has been great! The food is fresh and there are lots of healthy alternatives, but you can enjoy a high quality burger and fries as well. Great wine and beer and the extensive bar. The view is like none other because you are soooo high you feel like you can soar with the condors (and we've seen them flying while enjoying our lunch). Great people. We'll be going back this May.

“Well worth a visit”
Reviewed March 4, 2013

Going down the west coast to San Simeon and Hearst Castle? Stop here for lunch and enjoy their famous Ambrosia burger while drinking in one of the best views ever. Staff were lovely. Ask to be seated on the back deck to savour the view. Choose the bean salad accompaniment rather than the tasteless coleslaw, but if you have that view, who really cares?
Check the weather cam on their website to see how much is visible, before visiting.

“Great food, great view!”
Reviewed March 3, 2013

Went for a special occasion at lunchtime. Great food, great view. Pricey, but worth it. The service was excellent. You could tell that everyone in the restaurant loved working there, which is not surprising given the atmosphere and location.

“View could be better”
Reviewed February 26, 2013

Nah, the view is obviously spectacular. We've been going to Nepenthe for over 40 years and the trip north or south from Big Sur is always unique and changes with the weather. On a sunny and clear day there are few better places than the outdoors dining decks for drinks and food. Service is friendly and spot on with timing. Prices are not high when compared with comparable restaurants in Carmel and the quality and execution is excellent. Terrific appetizers including a roasted garlic and goat cheese plate, brussel sprout salad with a light sauce and bacon (how can anything with bacon be less than great?), artichoke and salad with a light and refreshing dressing. Four of us split two of the burgers. While $14 sounds like a lot for a burger this is the size of two giant burgers and along with a giant basket of fries for $8 we had a huge meal for 4 for $5.50 per person...yes, about what a Burger King Whopper and fries would cost and NO where close to the size and quality...and location. Great drop in for a trip along the coast. Very nice wine list if pricy but bring a designated driver is you're in the mood for adult libations. Highly recommended if you've never been and if you have been, well, you already know and keep returning.
