The staff at Treebones went above and beyond the call of duty in making our stay the most comfortable and enjoyable it could be. We will be back!

The Good: The yurts are clean, spacious, light, and very inviting. the bed was well dressed and perhaps the most comfortable "hotel" bed I've slept in in years. Marty, the innkeeper, is truly warm, comfortable, and worth the price of admission. We enojyed his attention and care. Treebones is maybe the best choice on the Big Sur Coast, considering the abysmal reviews of every other establishment down there, but, there are some problems.

The Bad: The yurts are all far too close to each other considering their thin canvas walls. Beware if you see small children around, they might end up being your noisy nighttime neighbors. The food was disappointing, to say the least. Overcooked, overpriced, and rather unimaginative considering the Central Coast's generally superb California cuisine. I think the chef's menat well but they were clearly new to the job. One night our salad arrived without dressing, the next night it was slathered in a far too tart vinagrette that made it inedible. The bread accompanying each night's meal was a prebaked and frozen biscuit not suitable for a fast food joint. the desserts were still frozen and not properly thawed. I was shocked. The vegetarian entrees were simply extra side dishes. The morning waffles were tasty, but, that's all one had to eat- a waffle with fake maple syrup and butter. Oh, and some orange juice. With no other food establishments nearby, at least that the staff could recommend, and no fridge in our yurt, it would have been nice to have some fruit salad or even the option or making oneself a bowl of granola or yogurt. Hopefully the management will see fit to raise room prices by a couple dollars a night and provide some more options for the hungry breakfast traveler who doesn't have any other option.

The Ugly: FLIES! The lodge was bedeviled by too many flies to count both breakfast and dinner. I had to keep one hand free to wave them off while my other hand tried to eat fast enough to escape their onslaught. This was very disturbing.

We stayed here for one night and wished we had booked longer. Everything was amazing - the yurts, the lodge, the dinner, the homemade waffles, the view - above all the staff were warm, welcoming and friendly. It seemed like every staff person was the owner - they couldn't do enough for you. We'll be back as soon as we can.

This is a great place to spend some time if you want to experience nature at it's best. We stayed in number 16 and it had a great view of the ocean. Bed was wonderful, fireplace was a must have. The bathroom was a short hike up the hill but everything is a trade off. This one and number 15 are the best Yurts to get if you are able.
All of the staff are helpful and friendly, spa is hot and with a great view, the lodge is large and inviting with coffee and tea always ready. Gift shop was very nice and had very fair prices.
Dinner was good and a great time to visit with other guest. We were only able to book one night but I would recomemend staying for two nights.
Give this place a try if your going to San Simeon (Hearst Castle) or driving down from Big Sur.

We yurted for one night Oct 16th and absolutely LOVED Treebones. The yurts are so cozy and decorated just absolutely perfect. Great comfy beds, and WARM as can be. Our night was rather windy and a bit chilly, but the radiators provided really heat up the room, and the down comforters did a great job as well. I woke up at about 3 a.m. to use the bathroom and there were a million stars above, and seals barking below (or is that sea lions?). I also heard a coyote off in the distance.

The lodge is super cozy as well, with a roaring fire at night and great ambience - books, games, artwork, magazines, etc. We didn't eat here as the menu is quite limited (three items) and a bit pricey. I'd like to see them reorganize to include a larger, more affordable menu. Also realize that you are about a 40 minute drive to Big Sur and other dining options. The lodge has a GREAT gift shop, that also sells anything you might have forgot: razors, maps, shampoo, ice cream, wine.... Decent prices.

Breakfast includes free hot make your own waffles, which was quite fun.

I would have liked to stay longer, and just relax on our deck, gazing at the ocean, but alas, we only had one night. I would return in a heartbeat!

We stayed at Treebones overnight on our way to San Francisco and it was a unique experience. We recieved a very warm welcome and were shown to our Yurt (13 - as recommended on Trip Advisor!).

It is very difficult to describe just how luxurious the yurt is - very spacious, beautifully clean, comfortable beds, a fire and a balcony with stunning views to the ocean. The yurt had its own wash basin - communal wash rooms were modern and clean.

Lovely pool, jacuzzi and terrace were great places to unwind.

Dinner in the evening was pleasant - the menu was limited to two choices. Afterwards we played games and relaxed.

Breakfast in the morning was the only dissapointment with waffle machines taking centre stage. Whilst we were not expecting anything extravagant, some cereal and fruit would have been welcome.

All in all a great place to stay but probably not for longer than just a few days.
