We dropped in for lunch on the advice of a tourist information advisor (who goes herself when she gets a day off). Fantastic advice. It wasn't busy as the day started with fog. Be warned the staff said it can get very busy on clear sunny days - but I would wait for a table. The food was full of flavour

First I have to say the service was amazing. The problem is for 68 bucks a person you get frozen food ! I ordered the shrimp for an appetizer and sea bass for dinner and they were both previously frozen and soggy. The presentation was beautiful, but the food was unfortunately not good. My husband had the pork chop that was much better, but we decided Nepenthe had a better view and great food for much less money. We heard great things about the bakery and if you want to drop 300 bucks on dinner for 2 (without drinks) post ranch was raved about from others staying at Ventana.
Although the food was more like a 2, the restaurant is beautiful and the staff is great. It would be a wonderful place to go for drinks and maybe an appetizer.

Traveling thru Big Sur offers several spots to dine but I love Ventana Inn for lunch. Sitting outside on their patio on a clear and sunny day cannot be beat. The panoramic views are amazing and the food is excellent. Start with an appetizer of calamari and a glass of white wine as you pour over the menu for your entree. I have tried several different items and have always been pleased. The service is just as great as food. It's worth the drive!

If you want to see what the lifestyles of rich and famous eat, go here. If you are not among the rich and famous be prepared to be greeted by pretentious and snooty people who really don't want you there.
We had brunch reservations made six months in advance and arrive only to be told that yes they had our reservation but they had stopped serving brunch two weeks ago...sorry...you can Wait around for two hours and we will be serving lunch.
So we can not really comment on the food quality. The problem was solved by going to deetjins...Great food.
