“Well worth the trip”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 15, 2012 via mobile

Recommended by family, and definitely not disappointed. Stunning location, staff very attentive, 3 course meal currently $40 well worth it, food well prepared, presented and tasty. Not your usual big American plate, but cuisine size. Other comments have said pricy, this may be by American standards but certainly not by British. Amazing walk up to restaurant (but less able are offered a drive up) it is part of a great looking cabin accomadation area with great views of ocean and surrounding mountains. Paths to beautiful working kitchen garden, with dear watching you walk by. Great stop on the way from SF to LA highway 1

“The best view”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 15, 2012

If you are beeezing through Big Sur make sure you DO NOT miss this. The view is exceptional and the food is lovely. There are also ledges outside the doors next to the tables so you can take in the sunset outside and get a picture. Just gorgeous

“The best restaurant in Big Sur”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 12, 2012

This is an extraordinary restaurant with exquisite food and stunning views of the ocean. Pricey but worth it. Call way ahead for reservations - like 4 weeks - and be prepared that they save the premium times for guests staying at the resort - but don't miss it if you like great restaurants.

“Not to be missed!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 4, 2012

We made every effort to get here for the last seating of the lunch as we were travelling from Santa Barbara to Monterey. What a memorable experience! The food was exquisite! The wine excellent! The views are stunning! we could not have asked for a more perfect place to stop and experience this beautifully scenic drive along the coast . Very special spot !

“Getting too chi-chi”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 30, 2012

Sierra Mar has a new menu for lunch, prix fixe. $40 for three courses. Each course is very small and light so you won't stuff yourself trying to get your money's worth.

I had all three courses and my husband chose just two of the three courses because he just didn't want his own dessert. Sierra Mar then charged $48 for his two items instead of $40 for the three-course prix fixe. I had to ask the waitress to bring us a dessert to go to reduce his bill by eight dollars. She had to check with her manager to see if they could do that.

We used to get hearty and delicious sandwiches there for lunch. They were pricey but we felt we got a good value for them.

Those are off the menu now favor of more elegant offerings. I can imagine Post Ranch Inn wants a lunch as elegant and affluent as their lodging guests are. I'm disappointed because it doesn't seem to fit my appetite or my budget for lunch anymore.

We are local & often would bring out-of-town guests to Sierra Mar for lunch because of the great food and incredible views. From now on, we will bring them to Nepenthe or Ventana Inn for lunch, or Deetjen's for breakfast--even better!.
