“Great location, okay food, awfull coffee”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 13, 2014

Came in early morning for breakfast and hopefully whales. No whales this time, but a fine breakfast with eggs and bacon, lots of toast. They just opened, the room was cold and it took some time for it to warm up.
Prices are high - guess because this is the only place around - but food was okay. The waitress - think her name was Audrey - was extremely sweet and polite, always giving you a "thank youuuu" or "alrighty" when handing you the coffee or toast. The coffee however was awful - or more correctly not tasting from anything but water. We did have a lot of it though, as it was early morning and we were heading north for a long ride.
All in all a special place with a nice atmosphere, fantastic view and pricy breakfast. I guess in summertime it's a nicer deal.

“Whale Watchers Cafe”

Due to a power outage the restaurant we preferred was closed, the one on raggedy point. A few miles up the road was whale watchers. They were jammed, so service was a bit slow. Food was ok though. Parking was ok even with the crowd. The restrooms had a line because of the crowd so be aware if you are here when it's busy.

“2 stars for view. 1 for coffee”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 2, 2014

We paid $4.30 for a really bad coffee. Didn't proceed into the cafe! This is situated along the highway in big Sur so the area is gorgeous but the cafe looks out onto the highway and a little of the ocean.

“GOOD FOOD, BUT EXPENSIVE”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 12, 2013

Based on other's ratings, I guess we hit the cafe on a good day. The wait staff was very polite, friendly and attentive. The food was good, but overpriced.

Patty melts had large Costco 1/3 pound patties, grilled onions and flavorful cheese. The fries were large cut and well fried. The iced tea was excellent.

“Absolute Crud”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 3, 2013

Well!! where do I start. We were starving and pulled in to good old Gorda. Our first mistake!

Had microwaved hotdogs, which had harder buns than a clay fired house brick, and a hamburger with beef patties that we should of used for re-treads on the car! As we were starving we ate it anyhow. Our second mistake!

Much to our dismay, about 20 minutes later, heading south, we came around a bend and found another roadside diner with a lot more cars and activity. I'm sure I heard angels and piped music.

Learn from our mistakes.... when approaching Gorda, take a moment, blink, look out to the ocean, and in that moment, you will pass by and never know any different. Believe me, your stomach and bowels will appreciate it!
