You don't have to be an avid Henry Miller fan to enjoy this little gem of a library on the Pacific Coast Hwy in Big Sur, CA

“Not Miller's, not a library, not a memorial”
Reviewed April 18, 2014 via mobile

My trip here was a pilgrimage. For most of my twenties, Miller was a god to me and I always hoped I'd visit this place one day. Big mistake. It's a shoddy little bookshop dressed up as something more. The books that aren't for sale look like a load of old junk just thrown together. Miller didn't even live here, just his friend Emile Schnellock. The few mementoes are tantalising, but insufficient. Miller would have laughed ironically if he'd seen this joke parading in his name. The only reason to visit is that it's free, unlike the dozens of other outrageous rip-offs that constitute Big Sur.

“Nice little bookshop in a great spot.”

The owners have eclectic taste, so you find all sorts of random and fun books here. It's well worth a stop as you drive through Big Sur.

“Is Daisy in the kitchen?”
Reviewed March 4, 2014

It was really a treat to walk into the library and see it so full of people really browsing and enjoying themselves. An old fashioned (well, like the 1980s) record player was playing something and the atmosphere of books, music, people and huge trees felt like sneaking around in something magical.
Its also worth to note that books are sold, and should be bought there to support the remaining local bookstores left. I did and would again!

“Great place”

They even have musical events and you never know who may show up. Big names just show up and play here. It is wonderful even without that but the events make it great.
