My daughter and I stayed in 12A which was part of a duplex "cabin". I was hoping for a "cabin in the woods" feel but it was too close to the road and had a safety light on all night which meant light pollution in the cabin; the curtains are not black out. The cabin bed was VERY comfortable although extra pillows would have been nice. The shower was a small fiberglass (perhaps) one, there was no bathtub although bathroom large. A dorm frig was provided and a small coffee pot. The heater was a full on or full off sort of thing but using it combined with the ceiling fan worked to make the room comfortable. Housekeeping was good except one day they left the door unlocked and there is no safe in the room.
You can hear your neighbors but fortunately we had quiet ones,
There is a table and chair outside that would be nice in warmer weather.
Check-in went fine although the person could have been more welcoming.

Room tip: There's a big house at the end of the road which looks like the best option if you have a big group

We stayed at Ripplewood this weekend, the facilities at the cabin were great, we found nothing that could be a miss, the surrounding woods, the river stream behind the cabins, the perfectly set fire pit was all very relaxing. The booklet provided at the cabin, had all the information about Big Sur that you would need to plan your day. There was no network at the cabin, which was nice in a way, since it made us truly disconnect ourselves and enjoy the location. They do have wifi available at and near to their store which could be used, in case of emergency.Overall, we would want to visit again, this time with friends !

Room tip: The ones near to the river were great.

We stayed in cabin 2 on the river, which is very cold but beautifully clear and great to swim in. The cabin was well equipped with a fridge, hobs, kettle, coffee machine, shower (with see through roof to look at trees!), cutlery and plates etc. There was a fire pit specific to the cabin looking out onto the river - you can buy wood and everything else you need at the main shop up the hill, which is open until 8 every evening. There is a big other privately owned cabin on the other side of the river, but its very nicely done and even adds to the view. The other cabins further downstream seemed to look onto cars in the nearby campsite - I think this one and cabin 1 were the best located.

Yes, it’s rustic. I wouldn’t say it’s pretty but it was cozy. The bed must be a double (cabin 17), not a queen. Windows on three walls so there was plenty of cool air at night even though it was in the high 80’s in the day. You can get cell reception in the shop where you check in. The Road House restaurant across the street has a delicious breakfast. (I didn’t try the cafe at Ripplewood). Our room was half the price of anything nearby so it was a great way to enjoy the area without paying a fortune.

Have driven by Ripplewood several times in past years while going up and down PCH 1 and had no idea about their cabins down by the river. Nestled in a wonderful redwood forest, our simple cabin 9 was perfect for 2 nights in August. It was a bit of a challenge getting ready in cabin 9 for a fancy Big Sur wedding—a small mirror in the bathroom, no hair dryer, climbing up the long hill in heels to be picked up at the top—but it made for a funny story.

Room report: The main room was a fine size with a small table and sofa. Had a big overhead fan and was cool at night; the bed was warm and comfy. No wifi in the room (or throughout the area, so be prepared!). Ripplewood has a wonderful welcome binder in the room with visitor tips and maps. Enjoyed listening to the burbling river below us through the screened windows. The view out back off the balcony (waterproof chairs and table) is the river and a woodsy family-oriented camping ground across the narrow river.

The bathroom's white towels and washcloths were surprisingly fluffy. The stall shower was fine, with a window for a roof. Could have used a table or another surface in the bathroom to place our stuff. We didn't use the full kitchen at all, but ate breakfast both mornings up at the pricey Ripplewood Restaurant (separate review)—yummy and recommended. Also recommend driving 1.3 miles up to Pfeiffer Park/Big Sur Lodge and doing some of the nice walks/hikes around the Lodge. Beautiful!
