Ripplewood is a great place to stay because it's in the perfect spot in Big Sur. The Pfieffer State Parks and beaches are close, as are many restaurants, a deli, a video store etc. Plus Ripplewood has a gas station and a little grocery store on the premises.
We stayed both in the cabins up by the store and down by the river. Down by the river is the way to go. So peaceful and rustic. The cabins are not luxurious, but they are clean and we had everything we wanted. We stayed at 12B the first two nights. $95 a night, can't beat it. Granted there's just a bed and a little bathroom. No fridge etc. in that one, and it's very small. But we booked last minute and we were happy there. Although we were woken up each day about 6am by Turkeys gobbling. But that was pretty unique and something we joke about now.
We stayed the 3rd night down by the river in cabin 4. That cabin was really great. Nice porch on the little babbling river, wood burning stove/fireplace, kitchen with a stove and a nice size fridge with all the basic utensils. I don't remember a microwave. No TV in any of the cabins.
