The drive down to the beach is 2 miles through the canyon and that alone is great but then the beach which is so much more - great bog rollers, mountains, rock formations oh and a lovely beach with fab views from every angle

A little bit of a trick to find the place, and you have to cross a small river to get here, but worth it.

If you don't have a 4x4 or SUV, you'll have to hop out and traverse the river on foot to get there. But the beach is a must see. Just beautiful.

This beach is a magnet for photographers like me in December, when the setting sun streams through the portal rock. There were at least 25 of us, shoulder to shoulder, trying to capture the light as it came streaming through.

Finding this beach isn't easy, but it's worth the effort.

Time to share. I've been to Pfeiffer Beach twice; about 25 years apart. The beach is still awe inspiring. It's no longer free to park until late afternoon and the road is now paved, but it is still so secluded that for the second time my family and friends were the only ones there. It's like a private beach in heaven! You almost need GPS coordinates to find it. (Turn west off the highway just past the guardrail, into the woods.) There are no signs until you leave the road.
Be sure the fog has burned off before you go. The water is too cold to swim but the scenic views of the Pacific make up for that. The sand has streaks of purple and pink. There's a large rock outcropping just off shore with a huge hole worn through it . You can climb it if you're in good shape, but not appropriate for children. The view from the top is spectacular!
Make sure to take your camera. The waves crashing through the rocks and the sunset from here are beyond description. It will take your breath away!

This beach is absolutely amazing! Even though you cannot swim here, the views are breathtaking. Nice place to walk or have a picnic. A photographers dream!
