Loved it here - very cute/homey rooms, feel like little cabins, rustic and low maintenance. Staff was very helpful in helping us find hikes, places to eat, and where to find a TV to watch a basketball game (not that easy to do in Big Sur). The heated floors are amazing - I want one!

We stayed here for two nights and our room didn't look anything like the pictures online. Our room was tiny and the walls were so thin that we could hear verbatim what the people in the cottage next to us were saying. We had a very uncomfortable stay which is especially irritating since we paid over $250/night. The place does not match the price at all. I guess the cabins closer to the check-in area are a little nicer than the area we stayed in but the prices were the same. From the heck-in area, our cabin was further down PCH and the road to get over to our area was super sketchy and dark. We could barely find it when we arrived at 7pm. The Internet didn't work the first night and the second day it was in and out when we tried it. The shower and bathroom were so tiny it seemed like a joke. One plus is that the floors in the bathroom were heated. The beds were uncomfortable and the furnishings looked weathered. The blanket on the bed grossed us out :( Upon checking-in we tried to find another hotel but nothing else was available during that peak holiday time. Would have been nice to have a view of big sur or at least some hiking tours.

We spent one night at Glen Oaks on our drive from San Francisco to Los Angeles. I only wish we had been able to spend more time here to do a bit of hiking around the area.

The resort is located along Highway One. From reception, carry on South a few hundred metres and the cabins are situated down a little road after passing through a security barrier. There is ample parking space for a car outside each cabin.

We chose a Little Sur cabin, which was small but perfectly formed. I especially liked the heated floor in the bathroom. Each Little Sur cabin is semi detached and joined onto another cabin, so whilst we had quiet neighbours, I can imagine it wouldn't be great if you wanted to sleep and there was alot of noise coming from next door. We went for a little stroll around the resort and the other cabin types looked quite nice as well.

Our cabin had a fire pit outside with logs already in, however if you use up your logs, there is a wood shed near the entrance to stock up. You can buy marshmallows and other supplies in the resort shop next to reception.

We had breakfast at the small restaurant which was great and a popular place, not just with guests. Apart from this place which doesn't serve dinner, we didn't see many other places to eat, apart from a restaurant a little further South, but it wasn't very impressive.

We stayed there last weekend and the weather was fabulous (as warm as summer) and Glen Oaks just added to the wonderful trip we had. You get the camping vibe by staying out in a cabin in the woods (we had the River View - beautiful!) but the warmth of a cabin. The bed was comfortable, the kitchen and living room were beautiful, lots of great features. The fireplace was super unique!! It was nice during the cold nights making s'mores. Beautiful landscape and lots of trails to go on walks down the creek. Thank goodness for the heater and warm bathroom floors! They were very conscious about what we like, and made notes of it. We couldn't find matches one night, so the next night, they had the matches waiting on top of the firewood. They did our dishes too! My only slight complaint is that the heater was loud at night, but it is easy to sleep through. Otherwise, fabulous!!!
I added some pictures to my blog from all the rooms and area surrounding, if you want a better look! http://dreamingwithgoldeyes.blogspot.com/2013/01/travel-guide-big-sur-ca.html#

Room Tip: River View Cabin during the week is cheaper than the weekends, but still the same price as other cab...

We spent New Years in Big Sur and thoroughly enjoyed our "Archies" cabin. The country decor is tasteful and chic without being obnoxious (facing shower heads to share a shower without fighting or freezing!). Very spacious, with a cozy gas fireplace and kitchenette. Surprisingly quiet for being so close to the road. We never saw or heard anyone else although the place was full. Its location on Hwy 1 makes it perfect for hiking or visiting the area. The main attractions are a handful of miles up or down the road. No ocean views but nicely tucked among big redwoods. Would definitely come back.

Room Tip: Cabins further from the Hwy are the best, although Hwy 1 is not busy during evenings or mornings.

We stayed in one of the Redwood cabins for two nights. The cabins are definitely the way to go since they are more secluded. I loved the heated bathroom floors and the extra large bath tub. The beds were a bit too soft for me but comfortable nonetheless. You can really see the owner's attention to detail in the simple but homely amenities - hot chocolate, yoga mats, board games in each room! This was my first time visiting Big Sur and I am not sure what the other cabins are like in comparison but Glen Oaks definitely lived up to expectations. I know there are some other luxury inns in the area that cost twice as much but I am not sure I would have enjoyed them twice as much as Glen Oaks. I would be interested in staying elsewhere if I return just to see how this place compares but I definitely recommend staying here if you are looking for a more reasonable weekend getaway.

We were so glad we found Glen Oaks. What an amazing place. After staying at Ventana, which was more than twice the price, we both agreed we'd choose Glen Oaks over Ventana any day (as nice as Ventana was....).

Whoever designed the style of these cabins has impeccable taste. We stayed in two different cabins because we wanted to see them all. Each was unique and special in it's own way. The design is thoughtful, cozy and warm. We loved how simple but smart each place was. The outdoor fire pits are amazing, all under huge redwood trees. Heated floors were great after a cold rainy day outside.

We can't say enough about our experience. We will be back without question.

Room Tip: It's worth the money to stay in one of the larger cabins...
