“POST RANCH, a most spectacular destination”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 6, 2012

My husband and I spent our 10th wedding Anniversary at Post Ranch. We stayed two nights. The staff was exemplary, our "tree house" was tasteful, clean and peaceful. The view allowed us a lovely glance at the ocean through the elegant tall pines. We walked endlessly around the property, enjoyed the amenities and had a fabulous dinner and breakfast in the restaurant. We felt completely relaxed in the embrace of civilized nature!

The location is unique and the accomodation although 'eco friendly' is very stylish and extremely well designed and comfortable. This resort would be impreesive and popular just on its location alone. What was a real bonus was the quality of the restaurant food - it's outstanding. Menu very tempting and full of local produce. It is always comforting to be able to see the kitchen chefs at work early in the morning preparing food from local sources - predominently organic. The kitchen is fully open to view.
We had a large Ocean view suite - 'Meadows' which was probably not the best sea view. I would next time try for a suite to the right of the restaurant - Sierra Mar - which possibly has wider sea views along the coast.

Room Tip: Facing sea to right of restaurant are proably best views.

The most incredible setting! However, needs major updating. The carpeting in the rooms was filthy! The bathrooms are outdated. The linens and towels need to be replaced. In addition, if you have a butterfly room, you can hear the people beneath you talking and snoring - I am serious. There is no closet space so do not bring a lot of clothing and te lighting would make a troll look beautiful!

You cant get any better than this, or else I have not seen it. The most spectacular setting, paired with the greatest service, coolest rooms, and one of the best restaurants we have ever experienced. Expensive but world class. Can places have 6 stars? This one does!

Room Tip: I dont think there is a bad room. Just pick by price ... they are all great!

As part of our road trip from San Diego to San Franscisco, we stayed at Post Ranch Inn for 3 nights. I had no expectations, didn't know much about it other than we were staying in a tree house and it had nice food.
I almost wept when we got there, the welcome, the view, the peace, the stillness, it was almost spiritual. I've been to the Himalayas and sat entranced by the sheer beauty and lightness of it all. This is the only other palce on earth where I've felt that. Different landscapes, different language but an atmosphere beyond description, you just have to experince it. And before you go thnking, "daft old hippie", I'm not. I'm a hard headed Scottish business women who woudlon't swap a sausage sandwhich for a joss stick on any day of the week. So if the Post Ranch Inn can move me to write this, I think you can be assured of it's beauty and wonder. The staff are kind and look after you with a gentleness that makes you feel coccooned in a wee world of bliss. The food is stunning , which is good since it then matches the views . We asked for a really local pinor noir one evening, the grape was grown 3 miles east on the same elevation, will that do? came the response. Did it do? Oh yes, it was as stunning as everything else, shame there are only 50 cases of it though. I doubt it will be there when we go back, but I have a feeling there will be something equally as wonderful in it's place. The people who own and work here know their stuff. It will not disappoint. Go forth and enjoy.

Room Tip: We stayed in a tree house which was gorgeous, didn't manage to look at any of the other choices...

We have stayed in some fantastic hotels all around the world and nothing comes close to the experience we had at the Post Ranch Inn. From the moment we arrived, to the moment we left everything was simply amazing - from the greeting we received, to our amazing ocean view room, through to the peaceful infinity pools, to the delicious four course dinner.

The location is breathtaking - our room was perched on the edge a cliff. We could see the Pacific crashing against the rocks before an amazing carpet of cloud rolled in below us - we felt like we were on top of the world. If you are making the trip through the Big Sur, you will be making a huge mistake to pass this oasis by.

The staff are incredibly helpful and amazingly friendly

On this trip, we've journeyed from Los Angeles to Pismo Beach, Paso Robles, Big Sur and San Francisco, retracing our honeymoon drive up Highway One along the California Coast more years ago than we'd like to admit. We stayed at very wonderful, first class places along the way, but Post Ranch Inn in Big Sur is in a class by itself. The property setting and view is breathtaking, even when the cliffs below are shrouded in fog.

Our earlier than expected reception was excellent with Fred providing helpful information, offering hiking tips and providing us with one of the complimentary Lexus automobile to use to get around while our room was being prepared. Our room was memorable and fully stocked, with an ocean front, cliff view, a large jacuzzi hot tub with private windows, an inviting fireplace and a very comfortable king bed. Rustic but elegant. Dinner at the signature Sierra Mar Restaurant was also an excellent experience with attentive service and star gazing in the courtyard through the large telescope at meal's end. The full breakfast the next morning was leisurely and substantial. Although we only stayed one evening due to our schedule, we reluctantly had to leave.

The room rates are set in their portion of the stratosphere because of the value and service you receive in return. We'll be back.

Room Tip: While the "Tree Houses" (more like houses on poles in the woods) are unique in themselves...
