“Heaven”
Reviewed December 1, 2007

We stayed at the Post Ranch Inn over the Thanksgiving holiday with our 2 dear friends and we all had a wonderful time. It only has 30 rooms and they don't allow children on the property. Therefore, it is extremely quiet and heavenly. However, there will be 10 additional rooms opening up soon. The service was exceptional -- anything you want, whenever you want it. We ended up eating at the restaurant on the property every night and it was top quality. The only thing you might not like is the decor of the rooms. They tend to be a little "granola" for my taste - such as too much wood paneling, wood furniture, etc..the new rooms are much nicer and contemporary. Regardless, it is a little piece of heaven on earth and you too will enjoy it!

I just returned from a 3 day stay and I am so impressed with this place I am looking for a reason to return ! The operations of this place are well established and consistent and done in a laid back friendly way.I did not find pretensiousness with any of the staff which I really liked and that is a rare occurance in a hotel/inn of this category.
I was in the (least expensive ) butterfly room and it was absolutely wonderful! I think any room would be nice but the freestanding rooms have the most privacy.
The new section was open for a tour of the rooms soon to be finished. WOW! is all I can say. The walls are all reclaimed & recycled wine barrel oak and the solid carved stone soaking tubs are a dream.....with views of the ocean right before you.
A new spa room will be hanging from the cliff with glass floor so you can see the ocean while getting your spa service!

  • Disliked — less privacy than most

We were lucky enough to get a room at the Post Ranch at the very last minute. The reservationist was very helpful and made it all possible. We stayed in the tree house. It is listed as a forest/mountain view, but as this was a trip of a lifetime-"our" treehouse ended up having a full ocean view on one side and forest on another. There are only 30 units on the property and each one is unique and has an incredible view. The grounds are beautiful. We went hiking and enjoyed the sunset in an infinity edge hot tub that looked out onto the Pacific Ocean. The view was breaktaking. The experience priceless!
The staff was very unobtrusive and accomodating. We were only there for one night but took advantage of as many things as possible. A bottle of champagne with a handwritten note wishing me a happy birthday greeted us in our room upon our arrival. Dinner at the restaurant onsite was delicious and a first class experience. Breakfast was the best I've ever eaten! . We totally relaxed without t.v. and interruptions. The complimentary snacks and extras available in the room were such a nice touch. The bed was the most comfortable bed we've ever slept in. As we lay in bed, looking out the stars through the huge glass window above, we knew we were truly blessed. It's worth every penny it costs to stay here. We only wished we could have stayed longer.

While good, the spa is not up to international standards. The restaurant is excellent but not quite heavenly. My wife and mom and I found the experience a bit too commercial to be an inspiring California moment but for all that, they deliver over 90% of the promise of the spectacular location. The fact is that when a hotel charges this much, customers may demand a magical and overwhelming experience, and this place is just fine but missing the spark that would fire our imagination and surpass understanding. Am I asking too much? Are they?

We were there for my wife's birthday as we had been for the same event some 15 years ago, shortly after they opened. The web site had described some construction going on, but did not tell us that the restaurant overlooking the ocean was closed and relocated to another part of the property. Also failed to mention that the infinity pool overlooking the ocean was also closed. It changed the experience completely. For $1000 / night, we felt completely ripped off. A complaint to the manager upon check out ended with her encouragement to write to the General Manager. I did that in July and received a letter of non-apology in late October.
It is a beautiful spot as long as everything goes well, but do not expect any consideration from the management if it does not. I will not return.

We had a great stay and no huge complaints, however, I don't think I was as wowed as some of the other reviewers. Perhaps it is the fact that our room was about $1000/night that is making me be a little picky.

The view from our room was breathtaking---so peaceful and beautiful. The room itself was lovely--I enjoyed the fireplace, the bathtub (which was really difficult to get in and out of!) and of course, the view from our outdoor seating area. The decor of the room was minimalistic and soothing.

Service on the property was fine and unobtrusive---almost too unobstrusive in a way. The man who took us to our room upon check in was relaxed and friendly.

I found the dining room to be above average but not exceptional. Daily breakfast was just okay (the coffee was actually very good) and dinner was inconsistent. One night we dined at the bar and the service and food were great. The second night we sat at a table and our server was not very friendly or helpful. We asked some questions about the wine list and didn't receive much advice. And one day we ordered room service for lunch---my husband's burger, which was ordered medium rare, arrived completely well done. I am sure if we said something, they would have fixed it but we didn't.

The guided walk around the grounds was interesting. We also enjoyed the infinity pool as well as spa services.

One thing to keep in mind about this area is that there is no night life. We aren't party animals but it would have been nice if there was a lounge or bar on the property where you could have an after dinner drink and relax. The restaurant/bar shut down pretty early so there was really nothing to do after dinner. Some people enjoy this but for us, we would have liked just a little more activity.

All in all, it was a very relaxing vacation and the Post Ranch is a very unique and special property. However, for the amount of money you pay per night, I wasn't wowed by anything other than the magnificent view.

The Post Ranch Inn took our breath away. Amazing boutique property with around 30 rooms all blending with the beautiful surroundings. The staff made you feel extremely welcomed. The hammocks around the property were a nice touch. The infinity pool is incredible and the restaurant overlooking he ocean (recently rennovated) served incredible fare...very vegetarian friendly. The included breakfast buffet every morning was beyond words.

Overall, we did not want to leave and we can not wait to return. The rooms with the huge stone bathtubs facing the mountains and the fireplaces....you can't ask for much more.
