Beautiful location! You're well among the gigantic redwoods and a stone's throw from Pfieffer Beach (yes, there's purple sand!) Took my Dad for Father's Day and his bday. Our room was spacious. Two queen beds, we had our own rooms. Loved the nice touch of firewood for the fireplace. Outside the room we saw lots of turkeys. ;) Your parking space is immediately outside your room. The access to (free) hiking trails was awesome. Great for families, saw lots of families.

We hope you and your Dad will come see us again soon. Thank you for the wonderful review.

This place isn't particularly cheap, so I was pleased with how nice it was. We had a king fireplace room; the toiletries were nice, the bed was very comfy, and while the furnishings were updated, they were all in a tasteful craftsman style totally appropriate for a park proud of its CCC heritage.

The pool was big and nice, and turkeys wandered around the grounds. We also saw a fox after dinner. There are several hiking trails of varying lengths, with waterfalls, overlooks, and of course the river. Other parks and trails are close by, and you get admission to 3 state parks with your stay at the Lodge.

The restaurant was pretty good; they put a lot of effort into local sourcing of food, beer, and wine. The decor was a little spare, but not bad, and our server was good. In general, everyone at the Lodge was really nice. I would stay there again.

Room Tip: King Fireplace rooms are on the end so maybe a little quieter. Just make sure you open the flue befo...

We REALLY enjoyed Big Sur Lodge! After reading the other reviews, I was a bit apprehensive but loved it! The cabin was quiet (despite a large group of kids there - never heard them), the temperature in the cabin perfect, the wild turkeys in our yard fun, no TV to distract, we DID have Wi-Fi, the dinner excellent (except the baked garlic - but LOVED the salmon ravioli and lasagna), loved the wait staff in dining room (recommended nice wine), housekeeping very cordial and concerned when I thought I had lost something, front desk chatty and nice, shop person okay (ESL difficulties, I think), evasive deer in the front fun to watch and really enjoyed the hike to the waterfall. It was sunny and shady and a perfect hike. All in all, great experience and would stay there again.

Room Tip: Nice to get corner room and in smaller building with less rooms for possible noise issues.

We loved our room at the Big Sur Lodge. The front desk and restaurant staff were extremely helpful. Unit 33 was close enough to the pool but still allowed us peace and quiet during our visit. Grounds well kept and really enjoyed watching the blue jays and turkeys walk past our room many times a day. We will definitely be returning to Big Sur Lodge for another visit. Mike, thank you so much for the wonderful coffee!!!

Room Tip: rooms 32+ are very quiet with little traffic

I loved our room. It had a fireplace and was large and set back away from the pool. I had asked for that (away from the pool) to be sure we had something quiet. I had read reviews where there were complaints of noise from the pool heater I believe. The bed was comfortable and the room clean. They gave us plenty of towels and towels for the pool. However, it was pretty pricey to get all of that. I didn't mind no internet, no t.v., etc. I wanted the quiet of the park and it's what I was expecting. Which leads me to my main gripe with this property. They use those blow machines to clean up the leaves. Unfortunately, the clean up happened the one afternoon we wanted to spend some quiet time at the pool and around the property. There was no getting away from the very loud noise of the blower and it went on ALL afternoon. It's a state park, I really believe they should keep it peaceful. Rakes still work.
My husband's main complaint was the price of the food in the restaurant. I thought the food was pretty good but he was less impressed. Either way, it was very pricy and they know you have little options in the immediate vicinity and they can get away with it.
The park itself is gorgeous and there are many things to do in the area.

We stayed in unit 37 at the far end of the property and it was very quiet and quite comfortable. There is a wood burning fireplace in the room and the room was permeated with the smell of previous fires which would be something to consider if you are sensitive to that. The bathroom was OK, could stand to be upgraded. Overall the room was clean, but it is what it is - a lodge in the middle of the forest so we did find some spiders and other insects in the room. The firewood they brought was excellent and it didn't take long with the fire-starter provided for my husband to have a roaring fire for us. If you stay here, be sure to go out and look at the stars. Stay a while because the longer you look the more stars you will see as your eyes adjust. Absolutely stunning, the dept of the stars just kept increasing the longer we looked. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. The pool area was beautiful but we did not partake because we just didn't have enough time. If you have the time, be sure to check out Pfeiffer Beach for sunset and Nepenthe for dinner.

The most unwelcoming front desk 'staff'. No clue who's guest booked. We were part of a wedding entourage and the 'staff' couldn't even tell who is booked & who is not on their system. Very unhelpful, all others can be forgivable as this a Lodge style accommodation, but rude & unhelpful staff is not. I'd rather drive up another 20 minutes for my next visit.
